MICKLEFAB MIDSIZE TT

First photos of new midsize truck. Truck is done in two sections, photos are of top section. Has only taken a few days to nearly complete this section. All tubes and plates are laser cut and notched and are very accurate as is the top quality jigging. It has to be seen to be believed. More updates very regularly. Will endeavour to answer all questions.

More photos. Top section finished and off the table. Started bottom section aswell, whole floor section went together for test fitting without trimming a single tube. It really is a work of art.

Great looking work so far, well done!

Has someone already purchased this, or are you building it to sell later?

Sorry about the delay, have had to wait for some machined bits and other tooling etc.
To fill in time i have finished 1 rear trailing arm and will finish 2nd tomorrow. Steering rack bulkhead can go in tomorrow aswell and upper control arm frame is also finished and can go in at the same time. Will have photo's of all this in a day or so.

Front section going together. Quite complex sequence but still going together quickly.
Have finished both rear trailing arms also.

Front section bar work finished. First lower control arm is done and top control arm nearly finished. Spare wheel section should be here in a week or so. Front top shock mounts, upper control arm mounts and rear trailing arm mounts are still to do and then frame can come off table. Hopefully just in time for the arrival of kit 2.

I couldn't help myself and went to have a look at this truck. Let me tell you the photos do not do the design, quality and fabrication justice. The fit and finish is brilliant, and bugger me Gav can weld...

Everytime I think I'm on my last race car, something comes along to makes me want to upgrade.

I wonder if I can fit a turbo diesel in it?

So....you'll be building one of these for yourself?

You bet your sweet arse i will be building one for myself. I am ordering 3 more kits this week whilst the dollar is good and hope to see them early next year. These trucks will be the best value for dollar you will ever get and will be able to run at the front of the field if so desired and with the right driver of course. There are heaps of options available to suit most budgets and preferences. Also plan on having a spec engine sub class with contingency money and tyre sponsor just like the Protruck class in the States. Spec engine will probably be LS2 with spec camshaft and exhaust etc. My truck will run spec engine to sort it all out first. Will be a step up for me as new trucks will weigh about the same as my little truck.

Some photos of the door bars, front top shock mounts and bosses where the cross in the engine bay will mount. Waiting for rear spare wheel section to arrive, next week hopefully. Will finish upper arm mounts, rear trailing arm mounts and when rear section is on it can be removed from table. 2nd kit arrives in a week or so.

l have been watching this for a while and it looks like a great product and will be a great way for people to get into the truck class. With your spec class l think it will kick ass and if you need help in anyway l am there.

Thanks. It will be around the 1700kg mark so the computer says. Once you see it in the flesh the strength built in to the frame is quite obvious. The guy who designed this truck is one of the best in the states. He has tried very hard to keep the design very simple so as to keep costs down. It is only 85" wide but still has 22" of travel for the front and 28" for the rear, it uses 1.5" horizontal uniballs at the front to get maximum steering lock for our australian conditions. (trees).
A few people have asked about prices but as i haven't finished one yet cannot give accurate ones. What i can give you is the approx prices which i now think are achievable.
Basic roller with shock mounts/complete rear end/steering and steering column complete should be around the 50 grand mark. After that all parts can be purchased seperately if you wish to finish the truck yourself or get someone else to do it for you. Obviously i will do a complete truck aswell and it should come in under 150 grand for the base model. If someone wants to build a frame of their own i will sell susp arms/hubs/anything seperately to help get more trucks out there. All options should be available just ask.

Hi Gav, I was wondering what you were going to build next.

Nice looking frame.

Will a Windsor engine fit in it?

Hi Jason, you have been quiet for a while. Are you asking me what i am building for myself or what am i building after this one. The answer is the same. I have 2 complete trucks to build and a possible 3rd in the wind and in my spare time i will be doing one for myself.
I have checked with my supplier for someone else a while ago and his answer was no to a windsor. You just might have to upgrade to an LS Jason. Good to hear from you.

Gav,
Upgrade to LS? No, no, no that just won't do. Maybe the new Ford Coyote can be squeezed in.

In order to preserve my metal wellbeing I've had to turn a blind eye to Offroading for a bit as my finances couldn't support racing. Hopefully this will  be rectified for next year.

If it's OK with you I wouldn't mind stopping by one day to check out your progress on these new trucks?

Cheers
Jason

Sorry not much has happened for a while. Finally picked up 2nd kit today and will start on suspension arms etc next week. Hopefully spare wheel section should be here next week so i will be able to finish chassis on table and then remove it to start kit 2. More info next week hopefully.

Have finally got back into it with rear section arriving etc. Have spare mounts done and a few other bars aswell. Truck is now ready to be unbolted and rotated so it can be finished underneath. Once finished it will go onto stands and a dummy engine and tranny fitted so mounts can be finished off. Engine plate and mounts are finished and ready to be fitted. When that's done things like exhausts/fuel tanks/pulley drives etc can be sorted. Lot's to do. Will have two more hands starting next week to push on with truck 1 whilst i start truck 2.
