Story & results for ORW SCOR Masters, RAY VESTEY, COLO PARK CHALLENGE. 3rd December 2017

Here is a report on the weekends fun. Only my recall of it.

Ray Vesty Memorial, Crookwell Colo Park Challenge

The weather Gods saved the Club having to damp down the track with the water truck. Rain storm on Saturday evening gave enough moisture to ensure an almost dust free race day.  919 Justin Guy, let it be known he was there to win, with his first lap time about 24 seconds faster than his closest rival. From then on, Justin kept the pack behind him , with only one , in the 2nd heat, getting close.  6651 Dan McKenzie in the YAMAHA YZ was that man and he took out the 2nd outright spot for the day from  6628 Justin Chisholm , also in a YAMAHA YZ. The 18 Buggy of Glenn Hoffmans was 4th OR, with 211 Scotty Brown  5th OR.

In the first heat of the day, near the beginning of the 3rd lap, 148 Phil Pages  rolled on a corner , bringing a halt to his racing for the weekend.  After a delay in proceedings, racing recommenced. Close racing was the order of the day, with some great battles throughout the field in most of the classes.

Ian Kraaij in 40 Pro buggy, clipped a tree with the right hand rear wheel and bent it badly enough to put him out of anymore racing ,with David Towers ( Glenns father) driving the car with Glenn in the Nav seat, had to also pull the pin on the event after one race due to illness. 6698 Matthew Wyndham had reoccurring electrical & fuel problems , moving him down the order.  676 Nathan Chivas in the Can am missed the last race with clutch problems.

Scott Muma had his new toy out for its maiden run. 22 a Pro class BAT buggy with V8, very different to his older car 1020 with the Rotary. He was coming to grips with the differences, only to stop on the 2nd lap of the 2nd heat . Fixed the problem and back out there to complete the last heat for the day.  All the other entrants finished all the racing laps for the day, with Mathew Nikiforoff & Nicole Lennox  1090 taking home the Sport Lite trophy  . 333 Gavin Sheppard was the winner in Sportsman class and 6th outright, with Daniel Jandera  2nd.   Daniel Nikiforoff  bought home the 390 Sportsman  in  3rd.

211 Scotty Brown with his girlfriend in the nav seat for the first time, claimed 1st in Super 1650 class, with 247 Penni Ramsay  & nav , Olivia 2nd.  Super Lite A  winner was 6651 Dan McKenzie, with 2nd spot going to Justin Chisholm.  Super Lite B 1st place trophy went home with  Nathan Chivas, navigated by Angela Hoffman

416 Mark-Paul Grant bought the OZ Truck home to take the Extreme 2WD class and also took home the RAY VESTY Memorial trophy.   This Trophy is an encouragement  award , given to the midfield runner at this event each year.

191 Justin Guy was 1st in the Pro Class, with 18 Glenn Hoffman 2nd and 28 Paul Alport 3rd.

Sydney Off Road Racings first Off Road event at COLO PARK for 2018 will be on the weekend of the 24th & 25th February 2018. Just the right time to test your car out.

Thanks to all the officials and helpers for their efforts over this busy  weekend of  events.  Saturday morning SORRA had 20 people, young & older, participate in the Driver Training.  Then after lunch the Khanacross ran with 30 entrants.
