Thanks Wolf! You don't remember the size and tyre model by any chance I want to source them locally in Cairns if I can, freight is killing me bringing parts up.
I have always run a light truck tyre on my cars and grooved them to suit the conditions. There are plenty available, you need to look at 650 15, 700 15 or 750 15 sizes depending on the diameter you are after. Lots of brands available ie Hankook, Goodyear, Kumho, Yokohama etc.
Mickey Thompson do a good front tyre also, they are called Baja Pro and available in 30 x 7-15, 33 x 9-15 and 35 x 10-15. You can checkem out at www.mickeythompsontires.com.au
I have a car in my shop at the moment that has BFG mudders in 33 x 9.5r 15s pulled on to 4.5" BTR wheels. They look really good pulled onto the narrow rim, it narrows the tyre down quite a lot but they are 33" tall so good for ground clearance etc. but I believe they are getting hard to get.
I have been using handgrooved light truck tyres on the front of my buggy and find they work well.I bought r15 savero at for the front ,but to be honest there crap, thats my opinion.
I looked up info on the saveros - shame they're crap, they looked pretty cheap. I hated the hankooks when we ran them. Had them on for only 2 events when I hit some mud on an apex and it just stopped steering.... This was the result. We sold those tyres to azteck the following weekend!
And yes, I still blame the tyres - not the over exuberant driver!
