Tabing frame.

Well the time has come to start mounting parts to the frame. All the shock, suspension, rack, ect is done so have to start the motor gearbox ect.

The frame is chromoly but l was hoping to tab it out with mild steel. l dont have a tig but do have a mig and stick welder , what do you guys think l should do. Has anyone tabbed a chromoly car with mild before and what type of wire, gas, rods would you use. l am a boilermaker but l have never worked with chromoly before hence the questions.

Please help!!!

Kevin, I have been welding mild steel Trick tabs, (bought en mass from BMP) onto my chromoly frame.  I have done this after inspecting all the tabs on the frame from Lothringer and they are the same mild steel tabs, MIG welded on. The tabs are very easy to get, are perfect shape and design to weld and above all cheap. To weld them I have been using my trusty MIG on a the same setting I would use for mild steel to mild steel and don't expect any problems.

I was standing there as Bob Strawbridge finished welding my cromoly Southern Cross frame together. He was using a Mig on it so I see no issues at all with a Mig to put your tabs on. That's what I'll be doing.
