The lead story on cams.com.au website shows what a great job the Rally Panel are doing to rebuild from the bottom. Please read this and comment if you think Off Road should be doing the same. The Rally panel seems to have a lot of clout and are not afraid to be openly critical of the system where needed. The National Off Road panel have always been more focussed on the top of the sport rather than growth from the bottom.(My opinion only)
Interesting read. The talk in the rally scene is that there is a private provider (not CAMS) stating that they will be running a break away (from CAMS) Australian Rally Championship. This has created a lot of discussion and some concerns. Some are saying great where others are staying loyal to CAMS. Colin Trinder is the new chairman of ARCOM and I think he is trying to get out and listen to the grass roots rally community, which is something that rally people have felt was needed for sometime.
Slayer, As I understand, we are the only state (NSW) that has rules coming from the Gov., this is only to do with Public Safety and is not a problem. Indeed 6 or 7 years ago we were asked if we wanted this to continue with Sport & Rec monitoring public safety and CAMS agreed to continue with this setup. The sporting regulations are in the control of CAMS panels, state exec, boards etc. So I am not sure what your point is, the Gov. does not control our sport.
For those who may be interested, there will be a forum in Sydney tomorrow 7th March. Technically, it's a "Rally" forum - but a lot of the problems we have in Rallying "might" be relevant to you guys too. (I used to be involved in off-roading in Kempsey in the late 80's - but have been rallying in Canberra for the past six years).
