Now that CAMS is too miserable to send out manuals, and it takes too long to find the right info via the website....what is the rulings on fire extinguisher dates? I know they need tagging every year, but what was the pressure vessel life CAMS require?
I think that the tagging is to be done every 6 months & the vessel itself has a 10 year life from the date that should be stamped on the bottom. I think................? Maybe?

Just spent about an hour on the cams site...cant find the answers I need!
I heard on the weekend that extinguishers dont need to be tagged at all, as long as the extinguisher is less than 3 years old per date stamped on cylinder, is this correct?
And what was the ruling on helmets life span? I cant find that either!
It is a bit of a strange one for the extinguishers.... as far as the Cams manual goes, I can't find where it says anything about being tagged, etc. The two relevant sections are here:
Now, I think it is something to do with the standards system used (ie AS1841) and the requirements of that standrard. I believe that in order to meet the Australian Standard, it needs to have the testing date, etc.
With regards to helmets, here is the link to the Cams page:
Once again, there is nothing in there to say anything about a helmet being out of date. I have never heard of there being a problem with a helmet being out of date, however, once again, I guess it comes down to the standard that the helmet is manufactured to (similar to the seat belts). I can't remember from when I was racing, but does the helmet have a date of manufacture on it anywhere? If not, it would be impossible to police.
Thanks Trekka, I think the helmet rule is to do with the helmets without the australian standards sticker, such as american helmets with snell ratings etc. A couple of years ago at mildura scrutineers were rejecting some helmets, and I have needed to replace my imported helmets once already! Just cannot remember what the rulings were.
Still would like a definate on extinguishers though, I have been tagging mine for years now, would not be impressed if it was'nt required!
Helmets depend on the Standard. There was an old standard which was outlawed (I think Snell 95 but don't quote me) as well as i think the Snell "M" for motorcycle. I have a feeling the Mildura one was that the helmets didn't have the correct stickers. There is a whole long list of standards that are approved.
