The forum's going to change next year as I cant afford to keep it going in its current guise. Once the sponsorship arrangement between Off Road Rush and SORRA expires at the end of this month I'll no longer be paying for this forum so it will be going back to the original free format.
Note that due to as of next year I'll no longer be responsible for the administration and moderation of this forum.
If any sorra member would like to put thier hand up to take over the webmaster roll starting from Jan 1 Im sure the forum users (myself included) would appreciate it. If not the forum will no longer be moderated.
To answer the question thrown at me this morning, if SORRA are not interested in keeping the forum then any other offroad group are welcome to it I guess. Its only a matter of linking from another site, changing some settings and changing the banner.

Would it be OK to know how much it costs? Maybe a few of us smaller businesses could combine to cover it! Maybe we could have a voluntary subscription fee to help! (non-subsribers could not veiw 'under the bonnet' etc)

i'm wlling to put my hand in my pocket or take on the role as webmaster. in another forum i'm a member of we pay a $2 dollar donation through pay pal every month. it doesn't cover all the cost of the guy running it but it helps alot.

Cost to have the forum package weve got (no advertising and some extra features) ranges from $20 to $50 per month depending on usage & hits, but most months is between $20 to $30. Call it around $300 per year and you wouldnt be far off.
Price has been going up as the A$ has gone down too which hasnt helped. It will be a bit higher this month due to the amount of hits over the past couple of weeks, but quiets down in Jan/Feb due to off season.
Last 3 months has been A$: $13.57, $45.57, $19.52. This month will prob be int he 40's I would guess.
More to the point Im more than happy to relinquish the role of webmaster and moderator. William mate, as you're a SORRA member, and a very active club member, Im sure the club wont mind if I hand the role over to you.
I'll pass webmaster passwords over to you and the admin link early next week and my mob no and we'll sort out the payment side.
Im happy to co-ordinate the Sunphoto AORC Tipping Comp for '09.
The paypal idea with subscribers access to under the bonnet or something similar is a good one too. I'd also be happy to donate a few bucks to upkeep the forum in its current package. Perhaps a small annual subscription?

Adverts that we put are fine, its the spam that annoys the users - shoot britany and win an iphone, get a penis enlargement, online viagra... the ones that make me feel inadequate I dont like at all! haha!

RE multiclub forum, I've been approached by others with the same suggestion actually. Not sure how SORRA would feel about that though, afterall its been linked through the sorra site for 5 years. Mind you, I dont know that SORRA would care if we dropped the SORRA references once the ORR sponsorship expires???? Any SORRA official wish to comment here?
I've also been approached about making it a bit more officially the Aus offroad forum, also about combining it with other offroad forums in Aus. I suggest that anyone wishing to talk along these lines going forward contact the new webmaster, William or pm Webmaster.
I also want to point out that I havent minded the few bucks each month that it costs to host the forum in the past (if I did I would have whinged waaay before now! haha!) its just that with only one income in the house now money has become a bit too tight for things like this. Ive even given up on my morning and mid-morning lattes and am now drinking (god forbid) instant coffee! blergh!!!! The sacrifices one makes...

This is a great idea by jones just let me know where to send the money. And as william put forward i dont think $2 a month is to much, it would only take 13 of us to pay to cover the yearly cost.
thank for that garry i will contact you over then next few days re everything i got you pm and i have just got home from work and i will be working at least a half day tommorrow and will sit down at the computer after that change the details.
i have also recieved emails from other clubs wishing to turn this into an australia offroad forum which i will look into but it will be upto the club. this forum is running great at the moment and i will maintain it as is for now.
as for the donition side of thing i will work that all out later.
also any one that is a mod will stay.
please pm any ideas you have as i don't want my email over flowing.
The above posts are just one more example of the community spirit in offroad. I've got a severe case of the warm fuzzies here! Kudos to william for putting his hand up too. Remember that off road rush sponsor the classifieds and their sponsorship pays to host the sorra website. They supported the clubs presense on the net for the past 12 months and should be consulted. Ill talk to you about this when we touch base.

OFF ROAD PROMOTIONS WIIL THROW IN $100 FOR ADVERTISING FOR A YEAR AND I THINK WHAT EVER IS LEFT OVER SHOULD GO TO THE WEB MASTER AS I THINK THIS WOULD BE A PAIN IN THE A*SE JOB BUT SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT. I THINK THE COST PER MONTH WOULD GO DOWN IF WE KICKED KUSTER OFF THE FORUM.(JUST A MONEY SAVING IDEA IF REQUIRED) LET ME KNOW WHERE TO SEND THE MONEY TO AND MY LOGO. thanks for all the offers guys i will let every one know what happening once i do. my work load at work is huge at the moment and i just havn't had time to even talk to garry yet. you will all notice the new sorra link at the bottom of the front page this will be the way i will be looking at doing everyones adverts in the new year and i welcome all comments. off course this isn't set in stone i just think it's a way to make the place look nice.
