has any one fitted a toyota 20 valve black top head to a 20 vale silver top bottom end , i belive they mount up fine , but i think they might have differant combustion chambers , as they have slightly differant comp ratio's

As far as I know the difference in CC in the chambers is due to the head design, not piston heights. Double check by searching the toymods.com forum.
I think that they may have different rods though, not sure if that would make a difference - I do know that the early MR2 4AGZE are the gun rods, a bit heavier, but bulletproof.

The blacktop and silvertop rods are the same lengths, etc, but the silvertop are the preferred rods as they are much stronger then the very light blacktop rods.
From the readin I did in the past, I think the swap is all pretty simple, basically just a bolt up job. There are only really two things that need to be checked, which set of pistons you use and what cam belt and cam gears you use. The silvertop and blacktop timing belts are slightly different in length (1 or 2 teeth as far as I know), so you would need to work out which are the best to use.
