National TV coverage for the Australian Off Road Championship
Thursday, 02 April 2009
The 2009 ARB-Pinjarra Engineering Hyden 450, Round 1 of the 2009 Australian Off Road Championship announced today that it will receive national TV coverage both on commercial free to air TV and also on a major PayTV network.
A dedicated highlights program produced by WAs Black Olive Productions will be telecast within weeks of the events running.
OFF ROAD RACING JOINS THE SPEEDWEEK FAMILY
The thrill and excitement of one of Australia most spectacular forms of motorsport will hit the screens as part of the nationally recognised SpeedWeek and InsideSpeed line-ups. These programs have a massive following guaranteeing a huge audience with the two airings. The show will form part of the SBS regular Sunday afternoon motorsport line-up and then also be aired the following Wednesday on a primetime 8.30pm slot with FOX SPORTS. These air times will see the sport of Off Road Racing showcased to thousands of existing and new off road racing fans.
This is a fantastic break through for our event and of course the sport as a whole. Tolley Challis and his Black Olive Productions outfit have been involved with our event for many years now and have been an important part of its success. This is the next major step in the development of our event and we cant wait to put it all together said Ian French - Event Director.
Utilising their years of experience with motorsport coverage the Black Olive Productions production will include all the action from multiple ground based cameras, spectacular vision form the air via a dedicated filming helicopter and seat of the pants action from several on-board cameras. The event, the competitors, the awesome off road racing machines will all take centre stage with this adrenaline charged program.
Ian French continued We are especially pleased to be part of the Speedweek and InsideSpeed line-ups. They have over the years delivered great action to the mainstream Australian TV public and have a massive reach with an average national weekly audience of over 250,000. This is very big news for our event and of course for the sport in general.
A small article from the online Herald Sun in Melbourne.....
SEVERAL people have been injured in two separate accidents at a car rally in Western Australia's wheatbelt.
A 15-year-old girl suffered suspected neck injuries in the first incident during the Hyden 400 Australian Off-Road Championships at Hyden, 380km east of Perth, about 2pm (WST) today.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) said it did not know how the accident occured.
An hour later, several men were injured when a number of cars were believed to be involved in a pile-up, RFDS spokeswoman Lesleigh Green said.
"We believe there were at least three cars involved in the second incident,'' Ms Green said.
"Two people were treated as walking wounded but three men suffered a combination of head, neck and chest injuries.''
The three injured men and the teenage girl were flown to Perth for treatment, she said.
word has it coleman, taylor (n) and madden went off. scetchy reports but madden and nav flown to hospital. rest ok
Yep, Matt Coleman, Nev Taylor and James Madden all had incidents on the same tricky bit of track in very dusty conditions. Matt went 1st and badly smashed up the Alpha. Word is a bit sketchy, but Doug may have a broken arm and some other injuries. Nev then went over in the same spot in the dust and just as he was about to get out James came along and lost it as well. It wasn't a pile-up as such, more like 3 seperate incidents. The Emergency Response Plan that the Hyden organisers have in place worked exceptionally well apparently and there may be a change to the schedule today to try and alleviate the congestion in the dust.
I have heard that Doug will be staying in hospital for a while, as well as breaking 2 bones in his wrist he has a broken bone in his neck. Matt is out of hospital but feeling very sore. I hope they both make a speedy recovery.
Congratulations to Shannon and Ian for their drive at Hyden
Thanks for the ride Danny that was awsome stuff, certainly shows what it takes to be at the pointy end at the national level. A couple of questions for you, Is that your race pace or do you back it off a bit ? Why no sequential ? What happened to you over there ? and whats the onboard system you are using ?
dirtdrifter I try to drive it like that most of the time but i tend to make a few mistakes as you can see by the missed corners and stalling, but the race pace isnt far off that. I was going to put a sequential in for this season but there were too many things that needed to be changed to fit it in and we simply ran out of time, the h pattern is still pretty good once you get used to it! Had a fitting on the back of the water pump break which put the water on the ground and seized the engine rather quick, it came up on the motec but i kept driving for about 20sec hoping the temp would come down and the damage had been done. Thats a Chase Cam system i got off cam ritchie at racer imports, its set to the normal recording mode, i still need to play around with it a bit because it can record at a better quality, it also shows g force as you can see on the screen.

Dre If you are referring to the numbers on the screen it is lateral (side to side) and longitudinal (forward and backwards) G Force We use a motec dash in the car Cheers, Danny
Found this thread on the off road oz forum, http://www.offroadinoz.com/viewtopic.php?t=1227 I think a few of the people posting there need to have all the facts before they start slagging other competitors.
