Noticed in the AORCom minutes that clubman (class 6) will be dropped at the end of this year. Do we think that there is no need for a restricted class or is there pehaps still interest but not with the current rules.
In Victoria there are barely any class 6 cars running... I can't name any of the top of my head from the State/national rounds. Is there interest in this class in the other states?
It would be a sad thing to put an end to a class that could be developed with suitable rules, into a fun and cost effective entry level class for new competitors, somewhere where you don't need to mortgage the house to be competitive in the class. Also Mark Cowie has started racing in car 646 at Dondingalong and is running Witittren and the NSW C'Ship this year
Personally I think Sportsman Class would be best suited to an entry level low cost buggy class. Engines are plentyful and relatively cheap and lower horsepower is generally easier on gearboxes. Keep them with beam front ends and nothing bigger than a kombi box. A well built kombi box should be strong enough for a 1300cc engine though we all know that no gearbox is indestructable. This class has been running along time with a very strong loyal following of competitors. There is no need to reinvent the wheel when the wheel you have is doing a fine job.
