One tonner

HI guys,

I have a mate who is looking at getting into offroading, he has a HJ one tonner that he would like to use a starting base to get racing. I have scanned the CAMS manual to ensure it complies with class regs, A tray is definetly out on safety grounds and a tub that was commercially available from the manufacturer must be used. I have found some some pics from the late 80's with one tonners running around with flat fibreglass sides. Will this still satisfy the class regs? If not what options does he have.

Thanks

I would ask a current scrutineer before you spend money and time. (Morrie Williams maybe)
The history of one ton holdens racing or not goes back a long way and as I recall the one tonners were never produced by GMH with a tub, only a cab/chassis or tray.
As to the official reasoning of safety, this was never quite clear to me.
Hope this helps.

Maurie

hi underdog.
your not allowed to run with the fibre glass back panels. because the car only came with the table top trays on them.
we got two different class five in the shed. my one is only is 1986 nissan navara what is really stock. only put a role cage and nine inch diff.it has only cost us only a little amount on it. and the other one is toyota hilux what has had had alot more dollars spent on it. its got v8, big front suspension, big back suspension, 2 fox shocks per corner and a good diff.
you can go small or go big.
we found a car with a chassis to bulid off.
