THINGS WE DO JUST TO FINISH A RACE

Interested to find out what crazy stupid or creative things people have done just to finish a race. The funniest thing i ever saw was ( I think it was Bajas rule/ Warren Irons) Sorry about the false accusation mate if it wasnt. Kempsey fuel stop and he had pads (ladies) yep stuck to his race suit as harness pads. Creative genious if you ask me, Just to finish a race.

Is this because I drive a light violet car, I can't remember that, but maybe I've blocked it out, probably my navigator, (ex-girlfriend with sensitive shoulders hence the ex part.) I thought you were going to say how I drove more than half a lap at Mt Gambier with a rear flat and still won the class, or how I did the whole long course of Milbrodale with no second gear, including 1 and a 1/2 laps with a broken right rear torsion bar (no coilovers) and won the class only to have the other side snap while parked in the finish area. or the time I carried my car for 300m up a shear cliff...... oh hang on, I think I'm making that last one up.
The hardest lap to finish was that first lap at Griffith years ago, I'm sure there are a few that woud know the one, where it took me a couple of laps to get pulled out of that far canal after trying to stick with Hayden Bentley who's car somehow just drove out of the same canal. Towed out by 2 4wds on city slicks after 2hrs of trying and the getting back to the pits with 3 broken tierods ends and a bit of whiplash.

for me it's hyden easter 08 ,

2 weeks before the event , blew a gearbox
rebuilt it during the week before the event ,

test drove it on the thurs before ,
now its jamed in 2nd gear ,
rang dan rodgers telling him i was pulling out ,
he said it was to late to get my money back ,

so striped down again , replaced some bits and bobs
finished car off at 3am load up head the 3 hours to hyden

recon of prolog track same bloody drama , unable to disengage 2nd gear ,
found that with the filler plug removed i could disengage the selector sleeve
with a flat blade screw driver , great , but not good for racing ,

prologed first in class 2 , ( 1650 ) with no 2nd gear ,

heat 1 and the heavens opened up , turning the WA dust into slippery mud ,
passed 5 cars in heat 1 , started to have some fun ,

heat 2 , 3/4 way through snaped the right front drop stub spindal ,
continued on slowly to finish ,
but was unable to get going on sunday :(

We did a race meeting in our younger days (WACO Bush Bash) in a mazda 1300 wagon which the subframe snapped in. Car kept jumping out of gear, doors opened on their own and to top it off we also busted a leaf spring.

Solved the door opening problem (on the drivers side anyway!) with tie wire.
Solved the jumping out of gear problem by tying the gearstick to the firewall.
Solved the leaf spring problem with a cut down star picket and exhaust clamps.
Then got very drunk and threw up alot. :)
