MTQ Griffith 700 is all go

The MTQ Griffith 700 is all go. The Griffith Off Road Club has been flat out all week preparing the blue dot speed way which will be the start/finish for the 700 km endurance event.  This will be the longest event on the calendar for many years. With the single section format it will be interesting to see who can go the distance.

The Performance metals longest jump was constructed on the week end for the longest jump competition. The jump was made on the speedway track right in front of the crowed so this will be something real special for the spectators and other competitors to watch.

The club would really like to thank Tolly from Black Olive Productions for coming to Griffith and helping secure some funding out of or local council for this exciting event.

The presentation he did to our council was very well received and with councilors saying it was the best proposal they had seen.

The stage has been set all we need is lots of actors to turn up and it will be an awesome show..

I was lucky enough to have a preview of the prologue track on tuesday, its about 23km long and awesome. NO excessively high speed sections, and a bit of rough rocky stuff, and winding flowing tracks. Should give some of the lower hp cars and quality drivers a good chance of a respectable prologue position.

Camping/pit area is looking good also.
People trying to contact me re: camping, best ring the BH phone number, as my mobile is rarely used, and I am rarely home!

Entries are flowing in, and the presentation night is very popular, so I recommend getting in early.

Not sure of total entries, but there are quite a few who havn't been seen for a few years, and a few doing their first national! So add these to the 'regular' AORC competitors, and we will go close to our entry limit.

Griffith showground displays are from 5-8pm friday 23rd (scrutineering starts 4pm)

Why have they made it compulsory to stop at laps 2,4,6???
That has just changed a lot of peoples plans on how they were going to run the event. Now slower cars have lost some of the advantage they may have had with using less fuel and being more reliable. Now alot more vehicles will only get 6 or 7 laps in which is less bang for your buck again.
I would imagine that there will be a few people not happy with this decision.

Public opinion has meant that this will not be applied. Stay tuned for confirmation.

Just spoke to club members, as Adam said, the fuel changes wont apply. It was amazing how many people contacted the club to complain in such a short time, I guess the original format was definately prefered.

What has changed though is that a 15minute window will elapse after the fastest car finishes, this gives some buggies who were back on the starting grid a bit more time to start another lap.
It also has been mentioned that 'multi-car' starts will happen to get everyone away quicker, possibly within 10mins.

Conditions should be good this weekend, we have had good rainfall to date, and no more predicted till after the event...so dust should'nt be a problem! Although the mud puddles might be?

Mornings have been cold/frosty, so best bring warm cloths. Forecasts saying zero degrees overnight

Seemed to be a great event, the fog was really something different to drive in, and I feel sorry for all the 'mud eye' drivers who went to hospital. The early conditions were terrible, but highlighted the idea of a true endurance event.
I am sure an event like this gives drivers some great stories to tell of the event!
I was getting a bit tired after 4 laps, but was still dissapointed that a rear hub decided to fail, the car was running faultless, and the track was great fun to drive!
To see some of the drivers who did all/most of the laps was interesting, they all looked completely buggered. Alot of cars were a bit 'worse for wear' too.
Also interesting was how some top teams decided to pit in their own time for tyres and cv greases etc.
The performance metals longest jump was spectacular!

All the feedback I've heard is good, after they got over the foggy rain bit of the story.
I think it attained the objective of being an endurance race, great stuff..It was you Steve I was talking about, but you knew that!

Thanks for bringing back real long distance racing,Congratulations to All the Griffith Club & Crew at the MTQ Griffith 700 for a job well done. Its all the little things people don't see (lots of hard work) that make these events happen. Again Congratulations
