I notice a lot of regs now say that all vehicles must have a muffler & that a turbo is NOT considered to be a muffler. If the turbo makes the vehicle quieter, which it does, & that vehicle when noise tested is under the DB limit, why does it need a muffler. I can understand issues of sparks but a muffler is not a spark arrestor, that's a whole other kettle of fish. Interested in your thoughts.
I run a e15 et turbo motor with a 3inch dump pipe strait of the turbo,no muffler.my last buggy had toyota 1600 dual carb motor with a muffler and it was louder,so if this muffler rule is correct it makes little sense.
Rules also say exhaust must terminate at same point which I take to mean turbo dump pipes should follow main pipe and terminate at the same point even if they do not plumb back into the main pipe .I have seen 2 national cars where this is not the case and dump pipes were a fair distance from the main pipe which effectively meant the exhaust system had 4 termination points.
