It has been reported in the Northern Territory News that a NSW based driver has been killed while trying to stop a 17 year old youth carjacking his Ford Ranger ute somewhere around Broken Hill/Mildura. He was returning from Finke with his son when they were set upon by a group of youths while they were stopped at a service station having a sleep. Heres the link Who ever they are, our thoughts are with the family. http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2010/06/19/157231_ntnews.html
According to this artilce, "The man's white 2008-model Ford Ranger utility, carrying a black Husqvarna motorcycle, was stolen and later found burnt out off the Sturt Highway, east of Dareton"
Finke president was interviewed on radio in Alice. He said the man was travelling with his son who was a bike competitor but did not make it clear whether the deceased man had competed as well. The deceased man was 62 so again may or may not have competed himself.

Believe it or not. I was just told this story by My Land Lord yesterday as the Father and Son were friends of one of their relatives. Tragic Story. Absolutley disgusting.

It is a sad sad event that has caused all of this.
I live in Mildura and work in Buronga about 1km from the service station where this happened.
I am not sure what sparked this exact incident but the youths involved seem to have flipped. That same night there were multiple other attempted car robberies alledgedly by the same group.
I don't want to cast Mildura in a bad light but this is far from an isolated incident. It is just the consequences here are much worse than what has happened before.
My condolences to the family and I hope the police find everyone involved.
