how do organisers work out late time eg at finke the late time is 240 mins to do 230 kms at the pines enduro is 110 mins to do 135 kms and at griffith to do 170 kms you get 210 mins
Seems a bit all over the place to me Perhaps there should be a standard formula for all offroad events Until then, if your s-l-o-w, read sup regs carefully before entering races that are half way across the country.........sorry Swan
yes you should read your supplementary regulations but it was not in there about late time it was in the further regulations what arrived on the wednesday or thursday before i left to go the pines
Seriously though, Off road racing is just as much an endurance sport as it is a race, lets face it, the event name for Millicent is"The Pines Enduro" Anyway, what's offroad racing without making road side repairs with a zip tie, race tape, a piece of fence wire and a large shifter. To only have half an hour or less(and thats if your on the pace with the front runners) to repair your car during a heat takes both the endurance and road side ingenuity out of the sport.
For some of us to finish a round of the Australian Offroad Championship is just as important as it is for others to win it! Only to have that taken away because you finshed 5 mins to late due to a flat tyre or a loose what-ever seems a bit harsh
I understand that some public roads have to be closed during some of these races which may have some impact on this topic
Yes Azteck you are right, off road is an endurance sport. for example at Mildura in the first lap I broke an accelerater cable and limped back to the pits to replace it, lost about an hour. Then we went to Finke. At the 10km mark to Finke i had a cv flange problem. At the 60km mark had the same problem and then at the 95km mark got a flat tyre. On the way back to Alice did not have any problems but did not start at the allocated time due to cars being seated in front of me so who knows what time i started. Then at The Pines Enduro broke third gear in the first lap and then at the end of lap six i broke a rod end which made me leave late on lap seven. This is why I did not qualify as a finisher but i finished all nine laps but run out of late time. I still do not understand why i was allowed to start lap nine if I was going to run out of time. So in my eyes I still finished The Pines Enduro but due to futher sub regs which had the late time in it points for the last three laps were not awarded.
The last time I looked it was 3.5 hrs,210min to complete alice to finke.there is also a cut off time at one of the checkpoints so the track can be cleared properly for the bikes due to so many competitors and lack of daylight hours.I have seen competitors time out day 1 and still compete on day 2,each section is worth X amount of points completed in given time.AZ you should be nice to new people.

Anyway my view is that late time is an estimated guess, and depending on the organiser, they will make it realistic for everybody or just their favorite stars.
(still not over it)

syco,is that short for psyco or sicko. Anyway my view is that late time is an estimated guess, and depending on the organiser, they will make it realistic for everybody or just their favorite stars. (still not over it)
I instantly though sicko!
never having been subjected to timing out I cant really comment intelligently - but it does seem unfair to time out a car that did actually finish all km before road closures etc, and especially after a difficult race.
