Not So "Super" Diff

Hi All,

Just thought I would post a bit of an intersting one up here. Just for the hell of it. As I havnt seen it happen before. But I am a youngen. hahaha.

Anyway. First heat Sunday Morning, Dad lost drive in the Box. And he said it didnt really make lots of noise when it let go.

And since we have done our own boxes for a while now, we were trying to figure out what it could be. And so on and so on. Blah Blah.... And when we put it up on stands and spun it up it was fine. When you put load on it. No drive.
So when we opened it up and found this. We were both a little shocked. haha

LC, if that's the 4 spider VW unit, I had exactly the same problem, and I think so did Werner. They work in a class 2 for a couple of seasons but for longevity you really need to get the full monty.

Cheers

AB

Yep very true. I usally cracked my standard diff every few races. And chucked another one in.I have finally got a Super Diff in my box now. Which is great.

But these photos here are actually of the Albins Billet Superdiff out of Dads box. So I thought it would have held up. He doesnt have heaps of grunt.
But of course, Not sure how old the Super Diff actually is. So everything breaks eventually.haha.

i havn't seen that ,

but looking at the photo im thinking fatigue from flexing over time
as the ring gear flex's away from the pinion under load
it would pull on the carrier only on the pinion side , if that makes any sense ,
possibly due to the kombi / bus boxs not having a diff load bolt ,
just my 2 bobs worth

though i did once see a website in the good ol USA that was fitting diff load bolts to kombi/bus box cases , not to sure what the site was now ,
i was looking up diff load bolt setting when i found it ,

Jeremy... we must have mind waves accross the country.haha.
Thats exactly what Dad and I said. But I should not have said it was an Albins. Becasue it probably isnt. So sorry about that. Its a Billet Super diff. But really the manufacturer is unknown.

Thats the problem with the Kombi box. Even if its got all the tuff stuff in it. Its got to be HOT before you flog the daylights out of it. Real HOT. Because stuff moves and flexes alot.

And Anthony... "HELL YEAH"... Is all I have to say to you.haha
I was trying some of those "LIA" driving techniques at Milbrodale you taught me.haha. They work well.
