starter and ring gear

Hi there Guys

Looking for some help. I have a trans that has a brand new starter in it and a brand new flywheel with new ring gear on it but every time we try to use the starter it grinds and misses the ring gear. Does anyone know how i can fix this problem as i dont want to stuff up the ring gear to much that i have to have it fixed

 Thanks

I had one like that once i had to space it out on one side.Try this- spray paint the gear on the starter so you can see what part is coming in contact with the ring gear but first wind the gear out and measure it check that length against where it has to run to see if it will mesh with the ring gear GOOD LUCK

I had the same issue with my starter and ring gear. The starter had a nine too gear on it. My auto elec told me to find a holden commodore ten tooth gear and he fitted it.

The noise has gone and the motor turns over a lot faster. Cost about $80.00 including labour and purchase of secondhand starter.

Ok guys iam still looking for some help with this. We seem to think that the starter gear does not match the ring gear teeth as it seems to jump at the 2nd tooth and makes a really bad grinding noise. We are running a kennedy flywheel with a hitorque starter motor from hitorque.com (IMI-101N) ANy help would be great. We dont have the problem of it hitting the casing or anyting like that. And have tried to use spacers to change the distance between starter and bellhousing still nothing????????????????????????????

Cheers

i had a similar problem when someone lent me a starter at the track,it turned out wrong teeth on the starter, stuffed my ring gear, pull the starter gear off and see if it sits nice in the ring gear

i can only get it to sit in 1-2 teeth due to not enough room to roll it around the ring gear. But i did take a sample of the ring gear teeth with some blue tac and seems as if the starter gear fits 2 teeth before it hits the 3rd one right on top. So would mean to me that it is not a match and why its not engaging? can you use any sort of starter gear or do i need to get one from the company that makes the starter??
