The Commission and ORRinc are still in discussion with the current event organisers and the 2012 calendar has not been set as yet.On behalf of the Commission I would ask you to please stop speculation on the forum about the proposed calendar.
Once the calendar is finalised we willadvise everyone through the usual channels, in the interim if you have any questions or comments please contact the commission.
The two most expensive races for us on the east coast to go to. Hyden and Finke although i would go back to Finke. To be honest Hyden didn't live up to my expectations and the 5 grand in fuel to get there and back not high on my must do list.
I would hope that with some wisdom we would be able to skip one if we had a six race series
Word in the pits on the week end was that Finke and Hyden are out because they refused to agree about ownership of video footage etc.
They will be replaced by Donald and Sealake.
Anyone able to confirm or deny?
The video footage debate is interesting!
My opinion is that to have a sport like ours on speedweek is pathetic. the other disciplines displayed alongside ours only make our sport look like a joke. I have watched every episode this season, and it bloody hard to find time in the middle of a sunday.
I am not complaining about the quality and commentary, its very good, just the fact no-one watches SBS except people like ourselves who want to see ourselves on TV
What I have noticed is a lot of support to ARC rally on channel 10 and HD1, the other day it went for 2hrs straight and showed about 6 cars constantly (I assume due to lack of other entries to show), but makes rally look so much better than us:(
Remember, we had our 'foot in the door' with commercial TV, and some really stupid decision has now set us back years by putting it back on SBS
Jones your 100% right i don't care if the stats say more poeple watch SBS your not going to sell your race boat to buy a buggy and the more people in our sport the better.
One HD gave us prime time mums and dads that had no idea what a great sport we have. And i should just record SBS and edit out the boats and HQs like they would do to us because in the middle of the day who could be bothered. And as for rally i agree Jones its our sports time to shine someone needs to make it happen .
tv is not free and the last crew that paid to have it on One hd got shitcanned because they were focusing on certain teams that had paid to have the footage on national tv. Then there is the sponsors, Orrinc is trying to get a major sponsor for the AORC but as you can imagine there will be conflicts of interest with event sponsors etc so this will be a delicate subject. As it stands at the moment Orrinc and the event organisers are trying to get a commercial agreement between each other regarding promotion of the Aorc, but as everybody knows this is easier said than done, the bottom line is somebody has to pay to get the show on tv and other media outlets and without a major sponsor it looks like there could be a fee per national round for promotion charged to competitors. This is why not all of the organisers have not signed the current agreement, I can only speak for our event at Millicent be we are trying to keep the cost to competitors to a minimum and do what is best for the sport and our event and get an agreement that works for both parties. Hopefully everbody can come to an agreement and the sport can move forward but we all need to be positive.
Hope this clears some things up without going into too much detail and getting me into trouble.
Thanks Daneil we all don't have the facts as you and others do and thanks for sharing what you know.
I think the problem is we were spoilt with the One HD series and now we have second best. And as for the National rounds this just proves that the sport is growing i guess.
To the defence of the forum how would most of us know whats going on without it!
As Daniel says it comes down to who is paying. Rally would be pushing certain teams as they are the ones paying. 2011 was the first year WDR had any assistance from others for paying for helicopter, filming, promotion, production and airtime. Prior to that we have always paid for the entire amount out of our budget. (and it is not cheap) in 2011 we had some assistance from a third party in meeting these costs. Either way the broadcaster and editorial content is controlled by the $$$.
WDR have been and will continue to push for the best deal for competitors and event organisers to ensure we have a strong championship that can be marketed to the masses. Unlike Rally we have the advantage of strong numbers of competitors willing to spend the $$ to travel the country and put on a show. This, and the strength of our events that are willing to put big $ on the line, is our competitive advantage over many other motorsports and we look forward to striving for an outcome that takes advantage of these strengths and moves Off Road forward in Leaps and Bounds to where we believe it should be already.

I'd Happily pay a promotinal fee if I could drop a round (for me Hyden) so as I can save money overall accross the year. I'm sure the WA guy's would love to drop a round on the other side of AUS. That way everybody could win in the financial world of off road.

Definately going to be very interesting to hear what announcements are made in the next few months.
The coverage debate is a very interesting one. Sure it costs less money to get it on Speedweek - but if we aren't promoting our sport and getting new competitiors and sponsors into the sport - what is the real cost...??
I know that I for one am a new competitior that is racing because of what I viewed on the OneHD coverage. To me that sort of prime time TV along with it's ability to captivate Joe Public rather than already racing offroaders was invaluable.
Hopefully OneHD coverage returns sooner rather than later for the good of the entire sport!
A seven race series you would think makes it possible to miss a round.
But one of the problems with this is when you have an event at the end of the year in QLD the people in the western states are not going to be happy because of the extra points value.
Being able to miss Hyden would be fine by me.
CAMS could donate the money we pay them for our number registrations to instead be used for promotional use wouldn't that be a kind gesture
tv is not free and the last crew that paid to have it on One hd got shitcanned because they were focusing on certain teams that had paid to have the footage on national tv .....
Fair comment that.

I know what you are saying....but the fact is regardless of who payed for that first year, they had the Foot in the door for the following year, maybe sponsored and all?
Then those in their wisdom took that quality coverage and used it to get on to SBS now we will probably not have that opportunity again?
We have set our tv coverage back decades!
Don't bother comparing coverage and statistics, because hd1 was only in it's first year, and now we see how ridiculous SBS coverage is!

Just a Thought National TV is costly (HD1 has limited viewers), more channels less people watching. You tube TV channels that you promote properly via everybodys face book pages will probably get more views overall. People will be more engaged as they will know somebody in the video (you). Maybe get Black olive (or other) to create a 15 minute show for more events. If they took more advantage of everybodys in car footage you would have some spectacular action. I know it will be hard to get enough external footage but I guess you need to take advantage of the people that are already out there filming. Quality doesn't need to be as high and everybody will be getting promoted. Once it gets a large enough following then TV would probably come FREE!
BTW: I know there are lots of reasons why it won't work, why it can't happen but just think of the possibilities. Most business arent using TV but are devoted to social media (must be something in that)
One issue is getting competitors to hand over their footage. They usually have some reason to not give it over. (the camera didnt work ...... read between the lines they know there may be something on there that they don't want officials or public to see) We have though about the club buying its own cameras and putting them on the cars and starting them ourselves as they line up. Then we have reliable footage. I for one would always be happy to hand over footage from my vehicle (pretty easy when its in the shed :) )
Main issue is sourcing, romancing and continuing a relationship with reliable sponsors who actually get something out of the sport. Then these issues become easier to decide (pretty much ensure the sponsors are getting value) but harder to manage (balance everyone's needs)
The you tube channel is a good idea and very cost effective as far as air time goes!! I think you still need several camera operators along with some on board footage. A show made up of mainly on board will get monotonous and also to get all the on board stuff transferred race weekend is a nightmare. The One HD option is still a very real one and is a lot closer than it was two years ago. Over the past two years we have been working hard on reducing running costs for this production to take place with out compromising quality. The team at ONE HD love our product and are still airing the Finke 2010 show with out obligation. With a little support from the sport as a whole this can become reality!!!!!!

GETTING OFFROAD RACING THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES
clayton is it possible to get a real number on the cost of airing a 30min show just so people can understand the sort of money that is required to air each eposide.
Hopefully soon we can see the return of AORC to OneHD (or the like) - along with ORP YouTube channel? I think the two combined would be an awesome oppurtinity for AORC to broaden its spectator (thus leading to competitior) base! I know that I personally started getting involved with Offroad Racing because of the OneHD coverage that I saw advertised on my home tv - thus leading me to watch the racing - then YouTube - then I thought I gotta get myself to Gundy! (local race for us) --- which led us to now being involved racing in the sport we have come to love!
The action, people and sport are all up there with the best in the world! Now all we need is the top line promo!
Hopefully the AORC committee sees it this way too after 2 seasons on Speedweek jammed between 600cc street bikes and GT-P racing on a Sunday Morning. No offense meant to the producers of the Speedweek show - just the timeslot & coverage isn't in the same league as 7.30pm multiple showings on OneHD! Heck OneHD had a marathon running of the entire AORC Season in 2009 Christmas Day from memory! And it was just after lunch! Can you imagine how many (unaware of AORC) males sat down and watched HD AORC for the first time after Christmas Lunch... I know my wife had to try to pry away from the TV as I got to re-cap the AORC Season! That sort of promotion is what will take offroad racing and offroad racers into the mainstream! I'm definately excited about the future! There's plenty happening and I'm looking forward to being on the roller coaster!
Digsey, it could not have been better said! Who really channel surfs SBS and comes across something like our sport by accident? Whoever conned Aorcom into SBS coverage can only have personal benefit at mind, because our sport will never benefit from SBS coverage as it can from commercial tv channels......unless we add some nudity?
