How about Bob Stansfields OME Holden ute and the Chev C20 that followed it. Last I heard I think Terry Spinks owns the Holden and the Chev was broken up to provide parts for Bobs 1988 Wynns Safari Chev.

With the current trend towards restoring and racing classic cars for the tarbaby set, it got me to thinking... what would be the 10 most 'classic' offroad cars to be restored to their orignal specs and raced? And what shed are they currently hiding in? What condition are they currently in?
A few spring straight to mind:
Craig Martin's rivvy (essential for any-ones list I think!)
Crofty's home built class 2 which continually challenged at Kempsey?
Les's Aus Championship winning patrol?
Bob Mowbrays giant killing class 3?
Mark Burrow's Aus Champ beam car?
Murray Rogers first of the pop-off turbo rivvys?
But these were all before my time.... Im interested in the other cars people chuck in!

I would be interesed to know/restore one of the 4WD buggies owned by Bruce Mclintock and the other by Roger Walker. one had a V8 windsor, the other a 2lt escort..... Datsun 1600 diff in the front, blitz transfer case....could switch between 2 + 4 WD up to 100mph! They also starred in a porno movie filmed on Sydney's Kurnell beach.
This is early 70s we are talking!

The old Bridgestone team Scorpion's Keith Poole and Trev Menzel. Probably one of the first off road teams. Also Peter Schultz's Porsche powered Karman Ghia was part of that team mid 80's
I would love to see & hear the old Peco Star ute. Also the "Super Suzi" of Dave Stuchbery. There was also a couple of Landcruisers I think from NSW that had chevs with Hillborn injection on them Jeff Maile or something like that. Last but far from least, the Old Man Emu jeep. It was such a classic.
On the buggy side, all of Craig Martins cars. Probably from a VW fans view point, Peter Walkers 2.6 litre VW scorpion. Last but not least again, Arthur Heywood from Tassie's Buggy. Injected P76 V8, torqueflight tranny & Jag rear end. Just thinking there was also another very neat little Leyland V8 car belonging to Terry Perkins, it was mid mounted with a hewland transaxle.

craig martins car was awesome,i remember watching the shoot out at kempsie, their was a lot more powerfull cars there but that rivvy was in a world of its own in the suspension, another car in its day was peter calverts buggy,i think it was a self built speedway engine, duggan?,it cracked and sounded awesome,(couldnt hear craigs car till it backed off, peters engine in craigs car,now that would shake up the modern beasts)..
You gotta have the first of the A arm cars to Australia on the list. The Porsche powered Kuster/Raceco originally campaigned by Brad Zacka then Nev Taylor. This car lead the trend of A arm cars into Australia and would still hold it's own at a National level as a Prolite as it was powered by a 3.3lt Porsche engine. I may know where to lay my hands on it. ;)

I remember Fabio's pajero at Puckapunyal in about 92 or 93 and it was a truly awesome bit of gear but I also saw Richard Bennets big white thing that could be heard 5k's away and lost a front right hand wheel on a massive post at the start of the straight. My memory is very fuzzy so the dates and people are probably wrong, but bloody great cars anyway.
I would like to see Normie Earps XW ute l remember at the first Gundy he was fastest behind the class ones. Also John Macdonalds Baja which was the first water pumper onto a VW gearbox in Aus. They mighten be house hold names but they were inervators.
The yellow Karman Khia was Steve Knotts and had a Renault V6 in it and went very well and was only limited by those rotten vw gearbox's. It had lot's of new technology/idea's stolen from the US. Steve was one of australia's best engine builders for a long time and i am hoping to get him to a national round (haha) with the new trucks. He lives less than a k up the road. This is a bad thread, i'm having flash backs. I think i'm travelling at high speed in the famous Chevy Blazer at Sea Lake with Stansfield driving in whatever year it was. I think i should lie down now.
the sweet sound of svensons buggy cracking from memory it was a 6 cyl porsche 6 into 1 ,andersons black buggy with the rotary, you could never miss it, would hear it long before you see it

i think everyone who was there would remember neville boyes prologue at milbrodale in the 1600 hunter, that thing sounded like it held 10,000rpm all around the track, one of lifes great moments :)
Note the safety gear in the above pics, especially the driving suits and seat belts (or lack of) in the dune buggy. No firewall over the jerry can fuel tank! Guess what...the owners are still alive! No CAMS involved!
To be fair to some of the safety regs, the cars today are alot faster then back then though.
Anyone know where craig martins rivvy ended out?
