TROPHY KARTS

Just interested to know the general opinion of others?

If trophy karts are accepted by CAMs, then what engine size etc should we use.

There seems to be a few styles about now, and people have imported their own....is there a general overview of what might be accepted?

Does anyone know where the racing of the trophy karts is at and when we might see these things out racing??????

Also, are they going to let kids race these things and if so, what is going to be the minimum age to race????

I believe the Aussie Off Road Karts are already approved by cams however nothing has been done about where and how they will race or rules for them.

Trophy Kart Australia has 8 new generation Trophy Karts like Bob Todds arriving within a month and are looking at getting some racing organized in South Australia. Rules and insurance are currently under construction with the possibility to build your own Trophy Kart providing certain criteria are met. I definately know no busa engines will be allowed and it is likely that to keep parity with all the karts that the engine must be supplied from Trophy Kart.

Ages are most probably going to start at 8 but that all depends on Insurance. Trophy Kart Australia are aiming to have 3 different classes being Junior 8-11 in the original Trophy Karts, 12 - 16 in the new 200RS and adult class with the 450RS.

Regards,

Michael

good on Rick and the team for getting the first Trophy kart meeting up and running October 20-21. just goes to show that Cams and Aorcom can be irrelavant.
They did demos at Sealake, Waikerie and Moorex and now with Tony's help at the Loveday 4wd park, a dedicated 1.2 k track. it's just up the road and i'll be there. 2 days racing with Quads by the river. great
CAMs fall asleep and someone gets the ball rolling.

Trophy karts are a great concept to get a new group of families involved with our sport but in Victoria there is a catogory that meets this bill already. The club is known as TORC Trike and Odyssey Racing Club. These mini buggies range from 250cc Odyessy's through to Hybussa powered machines, traditionly they compete on very short course off road tracks such as the one at Bendigo (2.5 or 5.5km) mass rolling starts, NASCAR style, with up to 10 vehicles per KM. The club is CAMS afffilated and drivers use Level 2 speed licences. If anybody is intersested check out there website www.torc.com.au

Look good Chris, are the kids enjoying them? (silly question).
I reckon the AOK karts would be a good thing, I almost ordered one myself, Vern and Leah seem to provide a good service.
If you wanted to hold an event, you will find it quite easy to get trophykart australia insurance if you contact them. (Rick Bramly).
The Griffith club are presently looking at setting up a track at the Blue-Dot speedway for early next year?
I have ordered a USA built 200RS, mainly due to my location and the boys wanted a manual gearbox. I hope to be able to get a 450 in the near future?
Mine is currently in Adelaide and should be ready for the Loveday race. Kids have their membership and licences sorted and cannot wait!

Going forward, ideas being thrown around for racing could be--
8-12 yr class
12-16 yr
16 and over

CVT stationary engine kart (AOK and JR1 style)
200cc control engine (trophykart)
450cc control engine (trophykart) 12 yrs and older

Home built should be allowed in future, but engineers report will be required, along with use of control engine. The hard part will be trying to keep all states aligned, and not letting modifications/costs blow-out!

Hey Jonesy,

The youngest bloke of mine is turning 5 in December and is struggling with seeing over the bonnet at the moment but I couldn't just buy one.  I am a big supporter of spending money localy as I too own a business which has to compete against fabrication and equipment being bought in from overseas. It was a real pleasure dealing with Vern and Lean and their customer service and workmanship is awesome.

I can't wait until Vern brings out a 450 or 700 version for the "bigger kids" - happy days

I am all for keeping things "standard" and keeping away from the cheque book racing.  Don't get me wrong, I would love to go for beadlock rims and remote res shocks but personally don't think that it is needed at this level and it would keep the racing interesting.

I would be keen to look at possibly holding an event at home once I have put in some jumps and whoop sections at home.  The oldest bloke who is 7 has been spending time on the excavator so he can start on digging dirt for the jumps.

Those age groups and catorgories look fine to me.

Who did you go threw to get licences?  Are they CAMS?  I am guessing not from your past comments.

The local car club who I am a member of, said that they would let my oldest bloke compete at their gymkana / khanacross events if CAMS would cover him with a license.  Another reason why I purchased the AOK.

Cheers

Chris

The licences are supplied by trophykart australia, the purchase goes towards the insurance side of things.

The idea is that there wont be a requirement to charge an event fee (insurance will be covered by trophykart memberships and licences annually), so if a club wants to hold an event they charge whatever entry fee they feel sufficient to keep their club profitable.

As far as I am aware, the current insurance will cover up to 6 races per annum, per venue, any amount of venues, Any state in Aussie and NZ! (dont hold me to this)
So as an example, if you build a track in your backyard, council are happy to allow it, you draw up a map of where spectators/pits etc are located (similar to CAMs), send it to trophykart australia for approval.....and your away and racing for free, provided all participants are licenced.
If you want to charge the karts an entry then you can charge an amount you think appropriate? Loveday entry is $120, but there has been a large cost in track construction that needs to be covered eventually.

I too would like to have used local products, and am very impressed that Vern is putting such a great effort into it, unfortunately in my current position the usa kart was more suitable. There is hope that spares etc will eventually be locally sourced/stocked with some resellers interested.

We have also been welcomed to compete in the USA and vice-versa next year, so we really need to get the ball rolling!

I might be interested in AOK's new 450, depending on how the rules develop I might be able to fit the TK engine to one?

Happy Days Jonesy.  Good to see that it is all coming together with some good numbers for their first event down there.

That smile on your young blokes face must come with each kart as that is the same look my two young fellas had when they first sat in them hahahahaha

Anyway, cant wait to see some more photos and possibly some video footage from the upcomeing weekend.

Cheers

Chris

Hhahahahaha ................. know that "nervous" feeling well.  I still get the jitters sitting on the start line whether it be in the buggy, comp truck or my new found sport of BMX.

Firstly, Rick Bramley's vision has come true, with help from his family and friends, they have held Australias first ever Trophykart event....which BTW was a huge success!
We picked up our new 200RS on friday arvo, and left Adelaide for the racetrack near Renmark.
The kids drove aroung the camp area that night, and I gave it a bit of a check over. I must say I was way more impressed with the quality than I thought I would be....just needed to see them on the track.
The Loveday 4WD park is a great spot, it has all facilities, and a licenced bar with the cheapest beer prices we found in SA. the track they have built is world class design, and as proven showed the trophykarts abilities perfectly.
Saturdays racing had a prologue then 4 heats, all cars in approx 13. What we found was that the 450's lapped the 200's and was probably a bit scary fot the kids. There were a couple of JR1 style karts there which were to operate on a shortened course, so we combined the 200RS and JR1's into their own heat separate from the 450's. My boys (10 and 12) swapped between our 200, and Ricks older JR1 (9hp). The JR1 is pathetically slow (I would highly recommend not to buy one of these), and was easily lapped by the 200's, but more seat time for my boys is always good. What must be mentioned was an imported JR1 of Franc Galadega, not built by TK, but a beutiful kart. It was powered by a 13hp and 10yr old franc really put it to the 200's until the engine seized....really disappointing.
What this has showed though, is that Vern Crawfords AOK's would mix it with the 200RS on the race track which would be great to see (although they will have their own class)
The 450's came out for their heat....they are mindblowing. When you first see a TK you just think of an oversize go-kart, but these things are proper racing machines....way more power than you would think. I reckon the racing was far more impressive than the old stadium days, and very close.
Another concept new to me was 'spotters', you have one for each car communicating to the driver to try and help them win. The radios can also be overidden by event directors so they can talk to all drivers at once if required. I was sceptical of these, and did not use one....but I bought a kit home with me as they proved to be really good.
My kids ran last in the heats all weekend until their last drive, Lachlan 12 managed to get a first place in his last heat, and Brodie 10 got a 2nd in his last. I was very proud. (The JR1 broke a drive belt in the last heat). Our kart has now been washed and checked over...nothing wrong and ready to race again.
When you see kids 10 and 12 yrs old driving like adults, rubbing panels, jumping, controlled slides......its more special than you can imagine!
The only problem now is Reckell wants one, so a 450 is now on order, and we are getting underway some organising of a Griffith track for early next year.
The next Loveday race is scheduled for April, but talk of a come and try day in November was heard.
There are currently 2x 450's and 1 x 200RS demos for sale at present, and 12 more new karts will be arriving shortly.
For all those who have been waiting, you missed a great history making event, and if you still on the fence, jump off and purchase a kart, because these things will be huge in the future.
