spring plate rear arms

when they say an arm is 3' wider what are they exactly refering to ?

some cars i've cheaked have a larger distance between the pivot box and the srping plate ,

 

i've had a mate measure a new 3 x 3 arm and it mesuerured the same as mine

so im guessing mine are 3 x 3 arms ,

 

but no one can tell me if a 5 x 3 arms will fit my car

3x3 means 3'' longer and 3'' wider than a stock beetle arm.

yeah but where exactly is it wider on the arm its self
between the pivot bush and spring plate or spring plate to the bearing housing ?
and why do cars with bigger arms ( 5 x 3 ) have a wider distance between the pivot bush and the spring plate ?

as you can see on this photo i found on the build up page

this buggy has had to have an extension on the torsion housing to fit the bigger arms

due to the fact that the bigger arms have a wider distance between the pivot bush and spring plate ,

but how much wider ?

i think the plate has been moved to suit the long torsion bars,nothing to do with the length of arms,but i could be wrong,,

Your right, the torsion bars are the long ones. The 3 by 3 is from original VW mounts
