ARB series entry fees

This surfaced on another thread. It is being said that CAMS have increased the entry fees of ARB series rounds to the same as national events but the entry fees will remain the same as this year to competitors due to the organisers using sponsor money to subsidise entries. Can someone confirm this if it's fact.

not entirely a fact at this stage, the fees are being assessed at the moment, hopefully an outcome that will benefit the off road community can be reached.

On what grounds are they being assessed, the events are state rounds that form part of a series. Exactly the same as the Vipertrak Tri Series which takes place in different states. This should not even be an issue of discussion.

FACT CAMS have requested that events forming the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series be national events.

We are continuing to work through this for the best outcome for competitors, organisers and the sport in general. There has been NO decision about funding the price difference which is around $70 but competitors will inevitably have to expect that if this direction is taken there will be some increase. THEY WILL NOT GO UP TO $800+.

Other ramifications of this directive also of concern to us are the fact that we cannot have single entry licences and will have to deal with dual status events.

This year using single entry licences, 50 people experienced off road racing at ARB series events. This helps to grow the sport and provide for the future. Planning for the future that has been sadly lacking.

Dual status events will force organisers to run races where state runners do less than 75% of the race distance of ARB competitors. We are committed to uniting competitors for fun times, not alienating people and treating someone like they are more important.

Either way I can assure you that the ARB Series will deliver the best off road racing experiences to all competitors, family and friends. If you feel aggrieved by this decision send an email to your local AORCom rep or Marilyn Emmins marilyne@ncable.com.au and cc Aaron.Yeak@cams.com.au at CAMS in the next 7-10 days.

The assessment is that the ARB series is attracting competitors to travel interstate. Unfortunately CAMS has received pressure form badly performing events to put us on a financially level playing field.

The fact that the ARB series is not the only series that crosses state borders has not been missed by us. In fact the Victorian state championship also has a round in SA. Cross border racing to make events financially sustainable is inevitable but we dont want this bad decision to roll on to any other series.

So the events that were rejected as national rounds by CAMS/AORcom are now going to get charged fees as if they are national events but they aren't. Makes perfect sense. Does the ARB series have a lawyer? This is absurd.

The ARB series has and will continue to trust gentlemans agreements. We wont engage legal representation and will continue to provide open and transparent communication. CAMS should be a membership driven organisation so letters of support shouldn't go unanswered.

Any thoughts of getting insurance outside of CAMS, you know better than anyone that they won't back down. A wise person once told me that a gentleman's agreement should only be done between gentleman.

An opportunity to give feedback - taken from AORC website:

In what will be a category first, a Website Chat session will be held next Wednesday November 27 at 6PM with Michael Smith, General Manager of Motor Sport at CAMS, to answer all of your questions about the 2014 calendar.

Further information about taking part in the chat session will be available on the official AORC website and the AORC Facebook page

Please let me know if I have made an incorrect assumption here.
The ARB series was formed as an alternative to the AORC.
Most of the rounds of the series are held by events which did not get an AORC round for various reasons.
It is across at least 3 states.
It has a similar amount of television coverage, albeit on pay tv not free to air.
We had more than 20 single event licenses at Hyden alone. But only for the first part of the race - those people still count as having a new experience at the sport.

Having the word "Australian" in the series name drills a big hole in the bottom of your argument boat. You can't market as one thing then claim it isn't when it's time to pay your insurance.

I do agree with the 75% rule, it is a bit disappointing but not a big problem. If you want to race the full distance at a national event you can pay the full entry fee and not nominate for points. The extra bit of racing is beating up on your car for no points, but many still take the option. It's only a $5 plastic trophy after all :)

I fail to see a valid justification for avoiding the fee, please explain it better.

These were all events that got rejected, they were told they were not worthy of national status. They were also told that they did not fit the growth profile of the sport. So a group of believers got together & offered the competiors something that the AORC has constantly failed to deliver. From what I know they weren't allowed to use the words "national" or "championship" as they were words associated with the AORC. So by CAMS very own definition this series was not a national championship, it was simply a group of state events that banded together to provide some good, honest, no bullshit, family friendly off road racing. Here's the thing, it works. Why do CAMS want to try to screw it up?

From the interview thing the other day the CAMS rep seemed very supportive.
I didn't know about the word choices agreement, so yes, I see your point now.
They seem to have changed their mind, or perhaps they feel the ARB series took on a national character by itself which is something for you to be proud of.
Wouldn't paying the "national" insurance rate then give the ARB series additional stature and recognition? I'm sure your committee has all considered this anyway.

I'd love to see this growth profile they speak of. It'd help organisers tailor events so everyone is pulling in the same direction at a manageable rate. Too much too soon will burn out volunteers.

Just to be clear mate, I'm not on the committee. I'm just a supporter & an observer.
