If this goes through it will be the best way to KILL!!!!!!!!! the sport in a hurry.
There are a lot of different opinions out there but none that would want this rubbish, listen to the people dont bring down the death blow for TV coverage we don't need the money that badly, prostituting the sport like that will kill the 36 plus years people have already put in to it.If you only want a 24 car field for your national rounds such as the Supercars have this is the way to achieve it but a 80 plus field is achievable we already have it at state level events Sealake is a good example and 95% of these cars will not compete under your new rules as eveyone except class 1 will not comply to the new rules think about it people.
we are not getting that much media coverage anway and when it is covered it is covered well maybe the media should just learn to deal with it
another idea would be going to an American style Pro Truck- Probuggy- light truck- light buggy sort of thing---seems to work for them, they have a lot of TV coverage over there
To all readers and competitors, the talk has started to resurface again about class restructure , which is great. However, let me once again put some rumours to rest:
The PROPOSED (...that's important), class structure is as follows:
Mandate; That there be a rationalisation of classes that reduces the overall number and complexity, while ensuring no competitor has to modify or change their vehicle to fit into any of the new classes.
Class 1 - 4001cc to 6000cc and forced induction 1 or 2 seat Class 2 - 1651cc to 4000cc 1 or 2 seat Class 3 - up to 1650cc 1 or 2 seat Class 4 - 2 and 4 wheel drive modified (i.e.. current class 4 and 8) 1 or 2 seat
Class 5 - 2 and 4 wheel drive production based (i.e.. current class 5 and 7) 1 or 2 seat
Up to State level Class 6 - Current challenger class Class 7 - Up to 1330cc 2 seat only
It must be stated that this is a tabled proposal, and in no way a certain class structure. There will be an AORCom meeting on the first weekend in August to discuss the feed back on this class rationalisation and if positive, to implement it or a similar structure next year. All feedback needs to go through your State Panel, or preferably, emailed direct to offroad@cams.com.au
i think when you look at it there are a few problems with the model- how many class 5 and 7's run at the same pace and 4 and 8's, most 8's are only 8's because of a bigger engine-how is that going to compete with the trucks that have been built in class 4 (eg the OZ truck) as long as CAMS don't just forge ahead without looking at what the public and off roaders themselves than its ok for it to be proposed
whatever happens the new rules will need to keep cars competetive in their class rather than having to compete with opposition that they were not originally intended to race
All enquiries to be directed to your state panel, after involved disscussions and internet feed back this will be implemented 2007.
