class 3 tyres

Hey guys,  am currently building a class 3 (vic)  bike engine powered buggy.  i was hoping might get your thoughts on tyre size and type.  As i am new to this i have no real experience to fall back on.  Although looking at the buildups  and photos i notice most of the A arm cars go for the muddies front and back (looks like same sizes), and the link cars seem to have a narrower purpose groove tyre on the front and a mudy on the back.  Is there any reason why they are different??  My buggy is having A arm front, trailing rear.

Any advice would be good so i can start on my front uprights and steering etc.

you are going to need a pretty agressive tyre pattern if it is really muddy and slippery but on a track that is not quite so wet you only need muddies, they give pretty good grip and are reasonably cost effective

As for tyre sizes, being a class 3 you don't want to make the tyre huge as it will have the effect of draining the power out of a class three engine, don't know what size, you don't want to be running 35's like the big class one buggies i wouldn't think

it will end up being on personal preference, everybodies buggies and cars are different, its down to what suits you and your vehicle

Most of the mini-buggies run bear claws - might be worth a look if your car is light... talk to the torc guys for more info on that.

However, if its more like a regular sized buggy I'd be thinking along the lines of 28" grooved yoko's on the front, 30"9.5R MT's on the rear.  Depends on how much unsprung weight you're prepared to carry...

The advantage of running bigger tyres are that they ride the smaller rocks/bumps better front and rear, and the front end will have a lower roll centre with twin A-arms.  Downside of course... unsprung weight.

Have you got estimated dimensions and corner weights?  That'd help!

Wolf is right, it all depends on the buggy and do toalk to the torc guys, they probably know more about tyres for smaller buggies

Have a look on www.offroadracing.com at other class 3 buggies, to see what size there buggies are in relation to yours and what tyres they appear to be running
