The Discovery Channel out of Singapore will be at Colo on Sunday morning 1 Oct on our next club round doing a documentary on Aussie Big Boys Toys...
The doco is basically on Aussie guys who build and maintain their own racecars, and more importantly why. It will cover 4 types of motorsport - Offroad, Speedway (midgets), slot cars and Im not sure what the fourth is. The documentary will be going out to a global audience of some 40M.
2 SORRA club members (one with a V8 Truggy the other with a Pink VW) will be going through the interview process in their respective sheds on Wednesday next week.
This has all been put together in the last 6 hours with frantic ph calls between Aus and Singapore as I got the email this morning - they start filming in Aus in a week! - Colo will be the last item filmed before they head back to Singapore on Sunday afternoon.
So if you're tossing up about the day/night race I'd say show up, have a laugh and maybe get your car on TV in front of 40million people in Aus, Asia and the US!

I think it went off really well. They did the interviews of two nervous off roaders on the wed, then arrived first thing sun morning, I restricted my car to one run on the sat night so as not to break it before hand. I then had the incar camera for the first race on the sunday and also took the producer as navigator for this first race. they had another two cameras around the track at spots where they could film multiple parts of the track. Don't Know if Anthony was Hamming it up or making up for a bad weekend at Warialder, But he was flying and should look impressive. Aaron had some bad luck with an axle break But with the magic of tv will prob look to have fixed it and Kept going. Bruce Garland Also looked impressive. Not to mention the appearance of Pinky the Pig hamming up for the camera. should be on the screen in approx 1 month, will advise exact when we find out.

And yes the producer did enjoy her ride, which I hope gave her more insight into the challenge of off road racing and the fun that we have. Luckily my car survived untill just after the cameras left when the cv let go.

Can you remind me next time that someone asks me to do one of these damn media/promotional things to just stay home!!!
The first time I did one was at Parramatta Speedway with Chanel 10.....rolled it!! The second time was at Colo with AutoAction.......crashed it!! The third time for Discovery Channel.......break a brand new axle after 1 lap!!
Still, I think the Discovery Channel crew were happy with the footage they took.
I would like to thank Garry for his efforts over the last week to make it all happen.
ps... I think that the producer was more nervous than us, when getting ready for her ride in the Baja....he he
It took a bit longer than we thought, but well worth the wait. The Discovery crew have done a great job. Not sure on air times as yet, hope to get some info on that soon. Although it has already gone to air in the US.
We will have to check first, but I think we may be able to run copies for anyone who is interested.
