RE: Donald

Well, I got back from taking pictures at the Donals race late this afternoon.

To give some of you an update on your boys, Jones had some overheating problems which troubled him all weekend, but he still managed to complete all laps, and I think he finished in approximately 10th or a place or two higher.  Aztek suffered from some front shock mount problems which destroyed his results, but he fixed the problem on Saturday night and used Sunday to do some testing.

i would just like to commend both Aztek and Jones on the effort that both went to.  They had printed posters of their cars to give to the kids, they were both presented very well and their cars were fantastic.  And to top it all off, they are both really great blokes.

Hopefully we will get to see them down this way again, maybe even at Sea Lake??  I know the orgainsers there would love to see you both, and maybe even some of your friends as well!!

I trust you all enjoyed the event we had to offer at Donald. I have never seen so much of a buzz at an event as i did over the weekend. It's just a pity there wasn't a bigger field there to enjoy it.

Roll on next year where hopefully a National beckons.

Cool -

Spoke to aztek this arvo (hes at home, but not near a pc) and he reckons its one of the best race meetings hes ever attended and he'll definately be back next year.

Specifically (and Im taking some of the wind out of his sails!) the track, the people, the organisation were all brilliant. Im sure he'll elaborate!

I look forward to the race review and some pics!

Thanks for the compliments Trekka.
Yes it is one of the best races I have been to. Yes I think it can be the best race in Aussie given the chance. Yes I am hoping to go to Sea Lake. Yes I will definitely go to Donald next year. (hopefully a national round)
Sorry I did,nt catch up with you Renegade, but the buzz did keep us busy.
Congrats to all involved, Well done to the organizers who made us & everyone else so welcome & offered any help required & went out of ther way to keep us all happy.
The fireworks show was probably the best I have ever seen (never been to Sydney new year though)!
The pizzas from Jonnos Diner were great, thanks to the driver who also called to the bottlo for us. Thanks to the bottlo who gave me a beer sign coreflute to duct my radiator.
Donald looks to be a great town, well presented, and the locals like us off-roaders...thanks for the hospitality.

All the organizers, land owners, fellow competitors and the Donald community should be very proud of what they have achieved.

It is without doubt the best event I have ever attended in the 20 plus years I've been racing!

The track is breathtaking, just thinking of some of those sections now makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.....awesome!!

Great to meet new friends, check out different cars and race on different tracks.
I would urge all state racers around Australia to try and find the time to get to an interstate race.  Both you and our sport will benefit .

Sealake....have to check with finance department!

I'll make myself more known at Sealake if I go.

I was in Scrutineering on the Friday when you guys came through then was busy during the day lounging under a railway bridge pretending to do recovery. I did wander across from my on-site van on the Saturday evening but got sidetracked by Ian McDonald and forgot to introduce myself. I will next time though. ;)

Owen and the guys have worked hard to bring the event to such a high standard over the last year or so and it's no accident that we now start in the showgrounds. You'll have to agree that this event is far more family friendly than any other in that spouses and kids aren't trapped in the pits (or public areas) all day and can wander into town or back to camp without any trouble. I know the locals may be looking at also running tours of the local area next year and i put it the idea of maybe a country fair or the like be run in conjunction with the race to keep all and sundry occupied. I imagine any more ideas would be welcomed.

Don't mention the Sydney fireworks are bigger. Owen hates to be out-done by anyone......

Unfortunately there were not enough entries to truly show off The Donald 500 for the event it truly deserves to be but all i have spoken to are of the same opinion as you.

Ren. (Stuart)

For those that missed out. This was taken in-car by Rod Visser last year.

There are also photos from the outside to be found at vorra.org.au.

Enjoy.
