Can anybody cast some light on the rules regarding in-car radios. As I understand it, all cars competeing in AORC rounds from this year, and all off-road events from next year will be required to carry some kind of 2 way radio. Is this correct? What are the radio requirements? What are all you guys going to use? "Over"!
5 watts is the maximum for the class license. From memory the requirement was 5 watt handheld or mobile transceiver (477mhz CB).I think it may need to be hooked to the intercom, so the nav can transmit and receive on the move.
The subject of radios is causing some confusion at the moment. I am competing at Millicent & am not a registered national competitor. I rang CAMS as there is no mention of radios in the regs. The guy at CAMS was of the belief that if you were not a national competitor then you did not need a radio. The confusion comes in when the event event is not duel status ie state competitors do "X" laps, national competitors do "Y" laps. If the event is duel status a state competitor does not need a radio. As I have not heard back from CAMS I emailed Mayilyn Emmins (AORCom deligate), her opinion was that non national competitors WILL be required to have radios at Millicent. My understanding of next year is that they are required only for long distance events & as everyone else has said must be 5W.
