I was just wondering what people thought about having something in between state and AORC championship like an east coast title ( and maybe west coast title) for people that can't get the time off or money to do the AORC. Say something like 3 races in VIC (maybe donald), NSW (maybe milbrodale) and QLD and west coast could have them in WA,NT and SA. 3 rounds would give people a chance to see other tracks interstate while competing for a title without the expence of 5 or 6 rounds to compete in the AORC and if they like it then maybe try the next step, might be a stupid thought, but i'll ask anyway
Great idea but next year with any luck Donald will be a national, Warialda will be a national and Goondiwindi should still be there so why not use those 3 rounds. l am never going to be able to do the west rounds and will be running these like quite a few other teams but it would have to have all clubs agree and if it will get there numbers up they would probaly come to the party. You have my vote.
I think its a great idea, i know i can,t afford to run the whole AORC. It would give me a chance to run for a title that i could afford to attend every round for. Hope the powers to be will have a good look at this.
Come on people l thought that this topic would get a response. There are a lot of state runners that would think this type of series would be attractive let alone the clubs. It wouldn't have to be National rounds like Wolf said Sealake is an option, the mountain classic, one of the long course Queensland rounds and even a few of the S.A rounds would be an option too. It would be a max of 2 days there and 2 back for a few of the guys but for the NSW guys it would only be one. It might be a chance to get a few new venues or clubs onto the scene and be a chance for a lot of the people who use this forum to meet the others they converse with. l don't think we should let this type of series pass us by as the races are already there we just need a reason to attend and a chance to be the TRI STATE champion sounds good to me how about you.
I still think this is a good idea, if anyone else is intrested they need to let the offroad community know through this forum so the powers that be at state level will take notice. So if you are intrested get involved in this discussion.
This forum isnt really a political animal, good for gauging reaction tho.
I'd suggest to anyone who's serious to go to you're club meeting and gauge the club reaction. If its positive then get your club's panel rep to bring it up at a state panel meeting. From there it would go to AORCom. Isnt that the way our democratic sport is supposed to work?
From a practical point of view, its nice to say we should have it, but who's going to organise it?
I still reckon its a great idea. Sea Lake, Griffith, Milbrodale, Warialda, Wittitrin, Donald and Im sure there are QLD long course events that I dont know about.
Out of interest, would people prefer it to be included as part of AORC rounds (IE Donald, Warialda, Goondi as per suggestoin below) or non AORC rounds?

I didn,t want to make it political, i just want people to say if they are intrested or not so if it does go towards state panels they would know it was viable to run the events.
I think it would be better to run them away from AORC rounds so you could include a round like Sealake as it would clash with the Finke race, it would give us options that way to still run on a Aus wide long weekend.
Hi guys, I'm new to your forum but an off road racer from way back. I'm on the NSW Panel this year and if I'm not careful, I'll have the chair next year. Don't be discouraged if you don't get bombarded with comment. It takes a while for momentum to grow, so don't give up. The idea's got merit. I wouldn't expect any support from the AORC level though, as they'll see it as splintering their competitor base, rather than attracting new runners. NSW has run a Tri Challenge series, since before the state champ began and it is still supported as a club versus club pointscore. Just a thought, as your idea needs a tag to separate it from the AORC. Interesting discussion so far. I'll keep watching,. . . or is it listening . ?

There are some great ideas being floated our there, but if you really want to take it somewhere take to the State panels and /or AORCom, yes thats right!!!.It may surprise or concern some of you but a number of the Panel reps and AORC commissioners do follow the goings on, on this Forum and we do listen, but in saying that, this is not an official channel for action. However this may be food for thought.
How about a National Tri Series? ·You, the competitor choose in advance three rounds of the current years National Calender to race as a Tri serials (you pick the races you want based on your personal requirements - be that expense, distance to event, your favourite track, what ever!. ·You would still be eligible to compete for the AORC Championship, running all rounds as well ·Previous years AORC top 10 Out-right competitors would not be eligible to enter the Tri Series.
My personal thoughts to get this started, its a great idea, provides the mid budget racer a stepping stone into AORC Champions with out thecost of running5 or 6 round. You choose the events you want to run yourself, so allowing everyone the opportunity to race while not stacking numbers at three set events, and maybe reducing numbers on other events. I dont believe this will take away from State racing, competitors who want to run for State championship are already doing so and will continue to do so, but what this does is give you the ability to turn the couple of Nation events some of you run in to a series. If this could be come reality I would run the series would you?
Please give me your thoughts, view and opinions (privately if you prefer) and I will take that feedback to AORCom.
I do like the sound of what you have put forward and if it was the only way to get the series of the ground, then I would be all for it. On the other hand, there are alot of state series long course rounds that would also be great to run the series at.
1. To run a state event is cheaper for entry fees than a national.
2. There are a lot of state events that could attract better sponsors for themselves if they were a part of this.
3. There are state long course events that are very well run and are great tracks that are passed over for a national events because of date clashes or the dates are to close to an established AORC round. They also deserve the recognition of a job well done this series would bring.
4. If we held two of the events when Finke and Hyden were on it would not effect the turn out to these national rounds and still give us these national public holidays to travel to and from these events.
This is only my opinion and i would like to hear other peoples thoughts as well, i also think AORCom are intrested in what we all have to say.
Thanks AORCom for taking the time to let us know you are intrested in what we have to say and put forward.
The "Privateers Cup" for want of a formal description of the concept at this stage offers a very good opportunity for many competitors to chase a National Series without having to have the expense and committment to do the full AORC. I think it is very complimentary to the AORC and provides a very good development step between the AORC and State Championship levels.
The concept is a little different to what was originally proposed in this forum i suppose, but there is absolutely nothing stopping existing State event organisers putting something together amongst themselves to be conducted over there existing events.
I am not sure where Offroad 241s comments come from regarding state events being passed over for selection as National events. An event can only be selected for an AORC Round if there is an official application from them. Now there were a limited number of applications for an AORC Round next year and everyone of those nominations has been selected for the 2008 AORC, so no-one has been "passed over"
I should correct myself. Sea Lake as they always do, applied for an AORC Round on the Queens Birthday weekend, but then so does the Finke Desert Race, so one of them must miss out!!! Sad really because Sea Lake is a wonderful event and very well run. If the organisers there ever went for a different date in the calander i think they would have an excellent chance to return to the AORC.
Tassie Devil Sealake was the event i was referring to, but i also understand why this is done the Finke is a great race and deserves it,s spot on the AORC calender.
Tassie Devil wrote: Sea Lake as they always do, applied for an AORC Round on the Queens Birthday weekend, but then so does the Finke Desert Race, so one of them must miss out!!!
Why does Sea Lake have to miss out?
Why can't The Finke Desert Race change there date?
I'm not saying one event is better then the other, i haven't been to neither. But if Sea Lake always applies for an AORC round and keeps getting knocked back, i don't think that's fair.
I overheard a conversation last year at Mildura. Both people said words to the effect of. If they were to bring Sea Lake back, i'll come out of retirement. The reply to that was. That will never happen.
Sounds a bit unfair to me.

Dont worry wolfman i also think Sealake is a great race i have missed Sealake the last 2 years but i raced there the previous 5 years to that, we are aiming to have the new car finished in time for next years race hope to see you there.

its more disappionting that these people follow whats going on on this forum instead of geting involved , everybody has a opinion so more ideas find there way into the sport .,
Like I said this is not an official channel for action, nor is it a place for official discussion to normally take place.
The panel members and AORCom Reps are all officials and/or competitors with in their own clubs and states. We are at races and we are all contactable by email or phone, there is always someone around the circuit with our contact details.
If competitors have a view to get across, an idea or a gripe, then contact us.Some of your Reps do use this forum regularly however the rest of us don't, and individual have the right to choice how they spend what little spare time they have including getting involved in discussion on one club website (as great as the site is and I commend the people who do the work and provide the contents - thanks Garry one small idea that was taken to a club meeting and discussed, approved and paid for, by using the official channels).
Yesterday I choose this as a means to get two points across quickly, the first to follow on from the idea (and it's only an idea) being floated and the second to remind Off Road participants that there are official Websites you should regularly be checking to keep up to date.Only the notice about the CAMS web site and the E-news letter was with backing from the panel, but anything else that is written on this forum by members of the commission or NSWState panel is that person's individual view, thoughts or ideas not the official view of State Panels or AORC.
So I guess what I'm saying is if you have an idea or a gripe, email me, call me or come speak to me or any of the other Reps and we will take your view back to the correct official forum.
So now I've said that, can we go back to the topic?
Like I said this is not an official channel for action, nor is it a place for official discussion to normally take place.
...
Spot on. If its official you get too much argument instead of discussion! haha! Its a forum for championing ideas, asking dumb questions and bagging out your mates. :) hehe...
To get back on topic.
3 Round series as part of AORC rounds. What a cracker idea!
My original suggestion was NSW doing 3 rounds for a Long Course Championship - 2204 took it one step further for an east coast championship to compete in longer races, now AORCom have taken the initiative and extended it across the country as part of the AORC rounds.
From a personal point of view Rick and I cant afford to do all the nationals - and we certainly couldnt get the time off work to get the car to them all - so this is a perfect compromise for us. We'll probably run the 3 closest to home.
I do like the fact that the prev years top 10 cant compete - we're mid-budget racers and I see this tri-championship as a (relative to the cost of our car compared to the 'professional' teams) mid-budget series.
We were originally going to pick and choose our '08 events, a few races here and there, Milbrodale and Warialda (of course!) and a maybe one or two of the nationals. Now we'll definately run the 3 race series so AORCom have already picked up an extra car at at least one national next year that we wouldnt ordinarily have run. And we'll still run the NSW events we were already planning on running.
I also like the Australia wide aspect. We'll be in a championship against say an SA guy who might ordinarily run say Finke and Pines, and now might throw in Hyden as well to run the series.
AORCom are to be commended I reckon.
I cant say Ive got any major concerns to it being detrimental to any aspects of the sport of offroad racing. Would it reduce numbers at state events? Personally, I dont think so - you'll still have your club, state and national level cars, teams and budgets. This is just an extra step in the limbo zone where many guys like us have found themselves as the times have changed in the past 10 years, and especially in the last 5. We want to run nationals... but just cant quite stretch our wallets, work or marriages to get there...
Question time: Obviously the events you wish to have included in your tri-series will need to be nominated in advance to stop someone from running say 4 events and using the best three results. So will these be nominated at the beginning of the year when you apply for your number? or on the entry form per event?
For the future, (and yes Im probably getting ahead of myself!) will non AORC events such as sea lake (and the sea lake vs finke debate is too big for this topic - start a new thread on that one!) be eligible later on? Or will it remain AORC only?
I can see Warialda, Milbrodale, Donald, Sea lake as worthy events for this type of championship if the km of the events were stretched to make it an even par event with the nationals.
IE if Warialda was stretched to 400km would it be just as big a task to win against other tri-series competitors as Pines or Mildura?
Last question - whats it going to be called? Tri-Series ? (it has some heritage in NSW - in fact, its still going in NSW!!!), privateers cup? the "race on credit card and pay it off later" cup?
Finally, again, kudos to AORCom. I like it!

The concept as it is, indicates that you must nominate your 3 Rounds at the start of the year (i.e. when you register for an AORC number) This does not mean that you can only contest 3 Rounds, it just means you must nominate your 3 pointscoring Rounds in advance.
As for non AORC events being part of it, well we shouldn't rule out that possibility, but it is not envisaged that way at the moment.
What will it be called? Well let's toss out some suggestions on this forum. Maybe the AORC Development Series or Privateers Cup?
All State Off Road Panels have been asked to consider this concept and get feedback from the competitor base and report back to AORCom by the end of September for them to give further consideration and then detail a more formalised proposal to forward to the CAMS Board for consideration to be included as part of the 2008 AORC.
Ive flipped our views (IE mine and Ricks) over to Suze Zettl in her official capacity already. Ahhh, democracy at work. :) hehe...
Cheers TD - rather than nominating at the start of the year, why not nomiate as part of entry? Reason is, what if you elect x, y and z races for 08 and you cant compete at one due to work reasons or a stretched budget or repairs etc? Just bandying some thoughts about.
I like development series, dont really like privateers because technically we dont have any professional offroad racers yet do we? Not in the sense of ARC or v8supercars anyway.

l say we should give the AORC a big pat on the back. Not only have they been cruising the forums Aus wide but have taken in some of the info and ran with it. As we all know you won't please everyone all of the time but at least they are trying to fill a big gap from the top level down to the credit card racer. We all know how hard it is to attract sponsors but a top 5 in the "Poverty Cup" would give us a little bit more for our racing resume. Just think if you won the "Divorce Shield" you would have some bragging rights around the fire, bench racing as well.
Garry, i got the idea from the 125cc supercross in america, they have an east coast title, west coast title then an east - west shoot out at the end of the year. sorry didn't see your idea
Just got a question? are we going to get a round in NSW in the title
