With a couple of comments made re prolite on the goondi thread, thought I'd move it to its own thread.
The comment was made that we had no say in what progressed with the changes to the class structure - I thought that everyone had a chance to have their voice heard pretty well in both official and unofficial channels. Well handled by AORCom, and good to see it put in place quickly. Kudos to those who do the thankless jobs!
Have the changes been successful? Im not sure, to early to tell, but I do think they were necessary. The combination of single and 2 seaters was inevitable - it had to be done. As a consequence, biiiig numbers in the open class. Prolite is still brand new. A couple of years from now and I think it'll have a much bigger following nationally and the open class will reduce a bit, but still be the dominate class when it comes to numbers. The creation of prolite certainly hasnt had a marked affect yet on the super class, not sure where its gonna go from here though.
Last topic brought up was the strength of offroad - the organisors have to be doing something right because the sport is very strong. I doubt we'll ever see the numbers that were entered int he halcyon days of the 80's... but from what Ive seen of the 80's days the quality (read: budget!) of cars and teams is much higher.
All my opinions of course. Prolite good. Organisors good. Health of offroad racing... good!

Sorry wolf wasn't arguing the health of off road or the organisers, everyone is entilted to their opinion which I was simply expressing mine.As far as having our say I guess we did being on the NSWORAP we rejected the class changes mainly because in NSW we had healthy numbers in class 9 and felt no need for change the rest is water under the bridge. The effects on my own racing was good going from class 9 with a average of 7-8 cars a meeting to prolite with maybe 4-5 cars a meeting gives me a hole better chance so I guess I should just keep my opinions to myself. Good luck to those going to Goondiwindi wish our budget allowed us to make number 4 in prolite class
NSW would have to be the only state that had healthy numbers in Class 9. In Vic we were lucky to get more than 2 or 3 to a race and they were aways being combined with Class 1.
Prolite I see getting bigger over the next couple of years as more cars come on stream. It's a pity it went to 3.5 rather than a 3 litre limit though. It will be a class that has a hugely varied range of engines as everyone will have their own opinion. Anything from 2 litre Toyotas up to 3.5 Aurion motors will have a chance.
It will be the ideal class for those mid-budget players as Pro Class is definitely out of reach for the average guy now.

The motor size was the most critical aspect of Pro-lite and the decision went against the initial discussion. The size that was put up was 4 litre which was popular because of the V8 Toyota but the final choice of 3.5l didn't realy suit anyone.I doubt anyone actually ran a 3.5 litre motor at the time.I know you don't have to run the maximum but it helps. If 3.5 litre was proposed initially more people may have spoken out and said no lets make it 3.0 or 4.0 litre.
SORRY TOYOTAPOWR BUT I'D DISAGREE, IT SUITED US WITH THE HONDA'S, FEHLABER RUNS A 3.5L HONDA WHILE ME, PAGEY AND KYLMA RUN 3.2L HONDA'S. WHICH I ALREADY HAD BEFORE THEY MADE THE THE FINAL CALL AND WOULD HAVE RUN STILL IF IT WAS 4.0L FOR PROLITE, AS FOR THE ARGUMENT ABOUT THERE NOT BEING MANY PROLITES, NSW HAS GOOD NUMBERS AT MOST ROUNDS AND THERE IS A LOT MORE WITH A RANGE OF DIFFERENT MOTORS EG. SUBI 3.3L - JONESY AND SIMPSON, NISSIAN VQ35 - WATT AND I HEARD OTTEY HAS ONE COMING AND THEN THERES THE TOYOTA 3.5L AND MITSY 3.5L . SO I PERSONALLY LIKE THE NEW CLASS AND CAN ONLY SEE IT GETTING BIGGER AS TIME GOES ON AND AS FOR AROC ROUNDS I'M HOPEING TO DO 3 OR 4 NEXT YEAR (IF FUNDS AND TIME ALLOW) SO THERES ONE MORE AT A COUPLE FOR ROUNDS AND I'M SURE THERES MORE
Fair enuff I forgot about the Hondas. The fact remains the Toyotas are rare -I am after one and have yet to see a second hand one except a whole car at Pickles and while the Nissan is available its not cheap. By not sticking with the proposed 4 litre they eliminated the whole Holden V6 range, the Lexus V8, the Hilux V6 and I'm sure there are others.
TOYOTAPOWR CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG BUT DIDN'T THE HILUX MODEL AROUND 2003 COME OUT WITH A 3.4L V6 AND HOLDEN RODEO HAD A 3.2L AND NOW 3.5L THE ONLY CHEAP 4.0L I CAN THINK OF IS THE TOYOTA V8, AS FOR THE REST, THEY EITHER COST TO MUCH OR WERE CAST IRON BLOCKS WHEN I WAS LOOKING AND MY HONDA IS ALL ALLOY AND NOT MUCH HEAVIER THAN THE 4AGE 20 VALVE WITH ALOT MORE POWER
I think the 3.5 liter choice was a good one, purely for the turbo multiplier, you could run the same engine in prolite and in pro with turbo/s or for that matter without turbo/s. For a racer who wants something faster than a super 1650 for not much more budget its a winner.
It wouldn't have bothered me if the class limit was 4 liter
what I find funny is what is pro and lite about this class? maybe pro class should have been KING KONG class, maybe middle weight class would of been a better name
guys just thought i would add this link to this post for examples of toyota engine range (twin cam) if the webmaster would like i can do the same for a few maufactures and we could make it a sticky somewhere (maybe a tech section).
