l am looking to find out what type of horse power people are running through these or what could be run succesfully. Would a Kombi be able to run a 3.2 Honda. For a lot of years people were running turbo motors but did these only put out the same HP as the current 1650 all imput would be welcome.
I personally would try as hard as possible to stay away from a kombi box, there are other options (albeit expensive), but in the long run you would be in front to use something stronger. At club level a kombi might hold up (doubt will always exist), but if you are talking about putting one in your new car, and doing some nationals, I think a stronger box would be very beneficial! Another year, albins boxes will be more available s/hand, and you might find more reno and porsche box's come up as people upgrade. I run a jeff feilds auto (raceco), it has been excellent so far...to go to an event and not have to worry about the gearbox is priceless!
The rule of thumb I have worked to is that the most modified 2 litre box is safe to about 200hp. After that you are on your own. This bodes well for a mildly worked 1600 to about 175hp. This all comes to nothing if you are harsh with your equipment. A smooth driving style will make you box last quite well.
A 3.2 Honda might be pushing a friendship a bit far though.

Its true many cars in the past have run Kombi boxes succesfully, but we are going heaps faster now, particularly over bumps! I still think a Kombi has its place, but a few things need to be considered. Horsepower-up to 200 sounds good-at flywheel Maintainence-regular check ups by someone who knows what they are doing. The car it is going into-no more than 1000kgs on the start line. Tyres-31x10.5 A kombi will live well in a car with the above limits. I also understand Albins are making ring and pinions for them as well, this should make them a bit better also.

The car should meet all these requirements but we will have 15x9 tyres all around and the motor is a black top toyo with little work on it but the lack of horse power we are hoping to make up in suspension and the two 100kg guys in the car will have to loose some weight.
