LouLou in an interview in TOPGEAR march 09 Buddy said "took a year to make and cost me more than $300,000 back when our dollar was worth $0.92c US" if that helps, but i've heard rumors of some costing alot more, but that could be just rumors
As I said, for a 20' container, it won't make a difference to the freight rate if it is 1500Kg or 5000Kg, the cost will be the same.
The freight rates can vary a lot depending on who you use, the amount of work you do yourself, etc. There a lots of companies that you could use for this stuff, as I said I have done a couple through the company I work for and they were no where near $10K, but it really does come back to packing, unpacking, what documentation you have, etc, etc. Cameron Ritchie from Racer Imports brings a lot of cars in.

I didn't look into it enough because Mike Julson was handling the transport and things got a bit messy at the Australian end including the shipment getting redlined in Australia by customs hence the unpacking fees.
Also while you don't pay duty, you do pay GST which is collected by the customs broker.

The GST is calculated on the value of the car, plus freight and insurance. if you have other parts in the container then you will also pay GST on them as well.
Redline means that Customs want to have a look at the documentation. WHen the container gets here it can be subject to a number of different procedures with both Customs and Quarantine. Customs can direct the container for X-ray which may delay you getting the container by a few days, but it should not result in any additional charges. Quarantine can also check the contents of the container for any problems. If problems are found, then the costs can add up very quickly.
You can do this yourself of course, but if you are unsure of anything it is highly advisable to get someone to do it for you, as the quality of documentation, etc can make a massive difference.
Someone told me about a great place that manufactures carbon fibre panels for off road cars. I can't remember the name but if anyone can help me or better yet has their number, that would be fantastic! Thanks again!
I see in the RDC forum that they said that Lindsay Foster from S.A. has bought a second hand Jimco minus motor and box l hope he will still be in ProLite . Also they said that there is a New BMS Trophy Truck on a boat on the way over. Could this be the new vehical for D.B.
Penhall from the states are building a 4WD V6 turbo buggy with a fiberglass body for Hunter racing. What class for l don't no but it would be a front running car in any class. A class 8 pro class killer

This looks awsome, Shame we don't have a class for this type of car. Can't go in Pro Class, no 4wd's allowed. Can't go in Class 8 unless it was derived from a production 4wd car. Can't go in Class 4, no 4wd's allowed. Obviously they would have done their homework and would have an answer that we would like to hear.
I would imagine it will be class 8... they will put a shell on it that looks like a production 4wd vehicle. Their current car is basically a space frame chassis with fibreglss panels.

I feel and have just looked over the regs and i think this can be run in Class 8, the wording for Class 8 and Class 4 is very similar in regard to the body or coachwork, it just has to resemble a production car. so i guess if they can run a buggy with panels in class 4, why can't they run a 4wd buggy in Class 8.
Im building a class 8 patrol, im all for this to run!! It is what our sport needs, something way out there and pretty special! Can't wait to see it run! Ive heard that it may be ready to run Finke..... Going to be super quick i feel! May see a class 8 get top honours!
But i guess like Chris Westerns Class 4 there will be alot of people opposed to it. Good luck to the Hunter Crew!
I don't see a problem with it. Cars have been running in class 8 for some time that are pretty much space frame chassis with panels that look like a production vehicle. The panels on the current Hunter vehicle all seem to come off. Fabio Zarfati's had a number of front panels that came off from memory.
Can't wait to see this car, it looks like it will be a very good car.
