This is the Latrobe Off Road Short Course track in Tasmania. Magnificant little venue, bit over 2 kms in track length. First time i have attempted to copy and paste a link like this so i hope it works?
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=latrobe&ie=UTF8&ll=-41.234768,146.440501&spn=0.007342,0.014462&t=k&z=16&om=1 The main part of the usual track is obvious to the left of the speedway and the back straight and hairpin turn and return straight all to the north of the speedway. There is another additional bush loop off to the left of screen which was only occasionaly used, usually because it was often very muddy in that area and the boys from the south of the state couldn't handle it!!!As you can see, the track is around the confines of the speedway complex and is probably one of the most well equipped off road complex's in Australia as far as pit facilities, etc, with the use of the speedways asphalt pit area, scrutineering bays, etc.
I didnt realise that there was an offroad track around latrobe speedway. Mind you, I was at latrobe in 1985! Stayed at a nearby pub and had my first on tap beer there. I was 12 or something. :)
Looks like a good track about the same length as dondingalong. DD has alot of altitude change for a short track as it runs up and down either side of a valley to some extent.

I'm testing my memory a bit, but i think it was about March/April in 1985 that we first raced at Latrobe. I was part of the club committee (secretary) that built the new track (I was very young then) The area is pretty flat and is a clay base, so was very interesting when it was wet, which happened a lot. Which pub did you stay at Wolf, the Lucas or Mackeys? I have been "assisted" out of both on more than a few occasions. What was your first beer - Cascade - explains why to this day you drink so much Jim Beam, still trying to wash the bad taste out?
No idea what pub! No idea what beer! I do remember thinking it was gross... then thinking it wasnt bad, then thinking it was pretty good, then thinking it was gross again when it was coming back up...
And whatdya mean "so much Jim Beam"... you make me sound like an alcoholic! Im not an alcoholic, Im a binge drinker - big difference!

hi wolf, bridgestone international track at temogog (west of kempsey) not to good on computers but these are the co ordinates i think 30.58 45 52 south 152 38 32 02 east if these are right u should be able to see the main arena just east of the tar road u can follow a lot of the track still very visable. (lets hope this event is not totally dead in its day second best motorsport event in australia only second to bathurst!!)
i think this is the link for temagog http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=temagog+kempsey&ie=UTF8&ll=-30.983901,152.630439&spn=0.012233,0.019999&t=h&z=16
the temogog track main arena on gooogle is 30.983901S,152.630439E attached outlined picture of were i think the track used to go. not to sure on some parts like the long lap course and behind pits
I never even got a chance to spectate it. :( Ive seen the footage from the OME team but thats about it. Would have been great in the halcyon days of the 80s.

that map is pretty much dead on where it used to go.. just a lot more little turns.:P and wolf the race was still great int he 90's why did they ever stop it ?
Far as I know the land owner passed away and the family werent too keen on keeping it. I may be wrong though. Maurie would be able to better answer your question.
Come to think of it, Maurie could you get a link for a Wittitrin map?
re: kempsey 500 i think some of the land owners didn't want the race through there properties whilie the drought was on up there. i think the droughts over so lets hope the race starts back up ultimate test of man and machine 7 hrs of offroadracing non stop, plus KMORC did a fantastic job each year of the event cant imagine how much work goes into running a event of that class.
WITTITRIN GPS references when we plotted the track were: Middle of property: 31 06 16 sth 152 39 27 east Pits: 31 05 53 sth 152 38 25 east I don't know if these work as I only can get dialup connection!! Temagog: This would be hard to pick as the origional track was 110 km long, to fit this on a map would not give you any detail. It ran from Sherwood to Majors Creek )Also known as Parrabell Creek) and passed through Temagog on the way back. These days were just beyond description and they have gone forever. 180 entries, not all quality mind you, but they all added to the spectacle. These days the quality of the cars and drivers on an average is much higher. There are houses everywhere now with properties being subdivided etc. Last I heard even Killmores hill was for sale.
Ive been very reliably informed that the link above is for the crookwell track and the pic is at least 18mths older, possibly more... so it looks fatmans right - we're just gonna have to wait for the cloud cover to pass over!
