Just wondering about pain tolerance regarding fuel costs. At what point does a fun weekend away racing start to be governed solely on the price of fuel?, not just the race car because if you don't live within cooee of the venue, (our closest club track is still a 500km round trip) the tow car needs to be fed as well. Do I have my head in the sand, Is this already happening? The entry lists at big races are down, is this why? As a regular at club races & with 2 upcoming juniors in the family, we don't intend stopping soon but are we soon going to be the only ones there? If entry numbers stay low at major events, perhaps a way to save cash on high entry fees & very long travel costs is to get back to fun club racing, the more bums on seats the better.
Wayne, its probably not the whole reason but it has to be getting to be a large contributing factor.Mind you we would love to see bigger club race fields, preferably with plenty of new younger competitors. We've got to keep new blood coming in. Second and third generation is great, particularly for the whole family atmosphere, but we really need new new blood to widen our competitor base.
At my servo here at ardlethan, I put my diesel price up to $196.9!!!!!!!! and I still only make about 8c/ltr. But now that I need to live on a budget (got away without one for a few years), fuel costs are a concern to me. With crookwell my closest track (700km return), and closest national round 500km away, I do need to re-evaluate things. My tow car gets about 4.5km/lt, and buggy about 2.5km/ltr....so a 1000km tow trip, + recon, and approx 400km buggy distance, adds up to huge amounts. My future will definately be focussed on state level races! But then again, what value do you put on the racecar, f250, transporter and associated items sitting in the shed doing nothing? Makes fuel prices seem insignificant!
the pain is relevant to the passion, ask any footy player to come off the field in a grand final and he will tell you to get F@#%*d even if he has broken ribs and is spitting blood, the same can be said for many motorbike riders who will push through extraordinary pain just to finish. this is extremely similar to the financial commitment we all put into our vehicles. i couldnt give a flying F@#% if fuel was ten dollars a litre you couldnt get me out of my $5000 car with the jaws of life. i only wish i had more money to do interstate races aswell as the state rounds. ps diesel is $1.96 in hyden aswell. thats my two cents cheers
i sore diesel for $2.11 at fitzroy crossing last week while i was up there working , that mine site is closing down in 2 weeks due to the cost of fuel ,
