Frame Makers In Aus

Just trying to work out how makes buggy frames in Australia, and peoples opinions of each one.

Southern Cross- Cheap and work alright

RV2- Beautiful cars, but may be a tad under engineered?

Who else, looking for a 2 seat frame, lightweight etc etc.?

I don't think the RV2 is under engineered, quite the opposite in fact.

Structurally I think they are fantastic, and are extremely well built.  They have had a few minor teething issues with some areas of the suspension, but I think with the latest alterations that they have made with that area the cars are now working really well and seem to be very strong.  The workmanship on the cars is really, really good.

Here is a new frame builder that has just started to advertise on offroadracing.com.au, they are from SA. The new a-arm frame looks pretty good.

Given that your in SA, have a talk to Bob Strawbridge or Darren Thorne. Bobs been racing and building since the dawn of time. His MK V frame is all moly, priced well and been well proven. His new MK VI is going to be a bit dearer but well worth the extra as it will have shocker, gearbox and rack mounts already fabricated. Saving heaps of shed time and getting it to roller stage should be a breeze. I'm half way through building my MK V and having all those mounts done would have been great. The exchange rate will hurt you a bit. Luckily i had a shed fully of shiny bits before the dollar went ass up. Darren Thorne would be worth a chat, good bloke and builds some excellent stuff. One thing you will need is more money than you think. Although my ex wife spent 20 grand wtf.gifon doing the kitchen.........and the cooking didnt improve!!!!!! You cant build a buggy in your next lifetime.
