How long will the testing of the SFI belts take to be done, My 2 years(5 races) on my current belts are up and would like to do one more race before the end of he season without buying new belts that will then sit in the car for 5 months unused. Any ideas
Mate, it will probably take a while, nothing works real quick in the CAMS world and associated bodies. We may not have something from the CAMS Board before the end of this year and that's dependant of course on the results of the testing conducted and the recommendations from the AIMSS.
If you only have the one event to do this year and then nothing for 5 months, i would try and borrow a set from someone not racing for that one event, if you can.

I thought if your belts were dated for example 07/2006 they are good to 1/1/2009 i may be wrong
NO typo jones i read it in a post on race-desert Forum. this is the post. do not know if it apply to Australia
Many sanctioning bodies are recommending 2 years on SFI rated belts and 5 years on FIA belts. The way it works for SFI is that the 2 years starts the first year after the belt is dated, if your belts are dated March of 2008, then the clock starts January 1st 2009 and goes until January 1st 2011. So any belt purchased and dated in 2008 will be good for 2 years after this year. This system keeps allows suppliers to keep belts on their shelves without having to worry about the dates as much. The FIA belts have an expiration date printed on the label that is 5 years from the date of manufacture.

SFI maintains a quality assurance program for a wide variety of automotive aftermarket and performance products. This expansive catalogue of SFI specifications is used by many sanctioning bodies world wide. In this list, the number on the left is the SFI specification number followed by the product that is covered by the spec. The recertification period is the amount of time from the manufacture date when a product must be sent to the original manufacturer for inspection and then either recertified or replaced, based upon the findings of the inspection. Please note the time period shown is NOT the retest period for manufacturers. For more information regarding any of these specifications, please contact the SFI office.
Read it as you will but I'd take it to mean that it is uncertified 2 years from the stamp date on the harness. Not from the start of the following year.
I hope the AIMSS testing is quick. And is the ruling retrospective? i.e. If I had a harness that ran out last year, could it be pulled out of retirement. I hope this is the case as it makes it a lot easier to clarify to a competitor than have to look up dates and then have an argument anyway.
