Well they have got through Checkpoint 6, less than 40 miles to go, but the pace is very slow, only averaging 20 to 30 mph. Does make you wonder if they have a problem and are nursing the car home?
Only about 25 miles to go now. Whatever was slowing them down must have been fixed as they are running a reasonable pace now. Fingers crossed they can get it to the finish and at this pace in under 24 hours?
5 miles to go. Running pretty slow on the road again though. Can they get it home under the 24 Hours? I will buy the boys a carton of Corona if they can.
5th in class 24th outright! gotta be happy. What an adventure. www.race-dezert.com has all the results. Well done to the men in black.Coronas all round
I think we got a penalty for speeding on the road so that put us to 5th. But either way we are absolutly amazed that we managed to finish let alone be in the top 5.
Heres a bit of a run down I emailed to a few people....
I will see if Jason can put a link up to the photos for you...
Well we are finally back in the US. A few of us are about to head out to celebrate.
The final scores are in and I hear that we claimed 4th in class 1 bar any pentaltys. Not bad for the first time out ay???
We had a very clean run, Dad had to nurse the car to the first driver change at the 220mile mark with no rear right limit strap. Light bars on, new limit strap a dash of fuel and Travis was off to tackle the famous San Felipe whoops. Trav kept it on the track and managed to pass a few cars but the limit strap let go again so yet another limit strap was put on the car and he eventually made it to my pit at race mile 400 with the Jimco running 100%. New set of rear tyres(thanks to Danny Bs killa tyre changing skills), fuel and I was off into the darkness at roughly 9:00PM.
Lil John(our navi who soloed the whole race) and I looked after the car the best we could, the fog on the beach section aswell as the rain was hard to contend with but we made it to the 530Mile mark where we got on the highway and headed into the worst part of my section. We had heard the silt was bad but we were not expecting it to be as bad as it was. We got through it fairly well apart from one excursion down the side of a mountain.
8 hours after I got in Dad, Travis, Danny and Jordy fueled me up 40miles from the finish and it was all clean sailing from there.
Not sure of the actual time it took for us to complete but I think we would of done it in roughly 18hours.
It was a huge effort from everyone who helped us including all the guys from Jimco, Mastercraft, the Lofton family, Gay Smith and our 2 sets of crews in the Chase trucks.
A huge thank you to BFGoodrich Tyres, you guys build the best tyre in the business. Who would have that we could go the whole race without having a single flat?
Coming into the Finish line it was amazing to see the response from all the major American teams who at the start completely disregarded us as a threat. We just kept it clean and made sure we made no mistakes and look where it got us. There are a lot of guys that are now seriously considering contesting an event in the AORC because its clear to them now that the Aussies are a very competitive bunch
Thanks to everyone for your supportive emails and texts its greatly appreciated and I hope we made you all proud
If anyone wants high res photos just let me know which ones.....
