Just reading the 2009 AORC regs and found this, something different. Is this new or was it in last year as well? What do people think of this will it bring in more sponsors?
10.3 Each buggy driven by a driver registered for the AORC shall carry the logo of the manufacturer of the engine fitted to the car next to the roof number. The minimum size of this logo is 100mm x 100mm.
what is the point of doing that?? im sure there is much more important things cams can be making us do rather than put a sticker of the engine make on the roof number
I can understand that the opportunity to get outside involvement in Off Road Racing is a focus, and identifying with Manufacturers is an attempt at this. However, carrying a non approved logo in a manner that may or may not atrract sponsorship, therefore income, is not going to be appreciated by the Manufacturers.
There is also the dilemma that someone may work for one of these manufacturers, but have a different engine in their vehicle. What do you put on the car?
Has CAMS approved this identification?
Are you refused entry if you do not run with the identification?
Why should someone have to provide free advertising for any company? If they pay some money towards the engine, etc, then fine, but when you have to pay for the engine, etc in the first place, why promote them at the same time?
dumb question - the logo needs to be next to the roof number right? not on it? So I can stick it on the roof? I dont particularly want to re-make the roof fin.

Wolf in the regs it shows a diagram of where to put the logo and it shows that it has to be mounted the same as the numbers. I have put in a link to the regs.
OK, Im resigned to the fact that I have to make another roof fin, have it powdercoated so its white, buy new numbers and have the logos printed.
Oh, and I have a lexus engine made by toyota, what logo should I run? Has Toyota/Lexus provided CAMS or AORC (and by extension us?) with permission to use their copywrited logos? I note the following from Toyota Legal:
External Site Use of Toyota Information Third-party sites must have prior written approval before using any text, trademarks, graphics or photographs from any Toyota source, such as Web sites or brochures.
Third-party sites may use brand or model names in site texts only to the extent necessary to describe Toyota or Lexus products. Any other use of Toyota or Lexus brand names or any use of Toyota or Lexus logos, trademarks, service marks, model names or service names is expressly not allowed. Also not allowed is the use of text or any other material in any way that implies sponsorship, approval of or affiliation with Toyota.

In black and white there.... you canbot use the Toyota/Lexus logo on your car without permission from Toyota/Lexus. Good luck fiding the right person within the organisation who will be able to give that approval.
To take this issue one step further, the engine in my buggy is manufactured by a company no longer active in Australia. Do I now have to change engines to one that is to compete in the AORC?
According to Cams my roof number has to be at least 150mm high and my logo for engine manufacturer has to be 100mm high. Do Cams want the buggies to be driving around with the worlds ugliest roof fins? For instance a buggy with the number 222 would need a minimum roof fin of approx. 400mm to accommodate numbers with a stroke of 19mm and the 100mm engine logo. Cams really have to start thinking things through before coming up with these half cocked ideas.
Its the legal issue that worries me most - I work for a huge insurance company and have seen some of the intellectual property cases... Spoke to the lawyer though, she reckons our argument (if it came up) would be that as its a requirement of CAMS and we're effectively being forced to use someone elses copyrighted material they are the responsible ones. But its still arguable....

Danny CAMS do not make the rules for Off Road Racing. AORCOM being a commission make the rules. I can see what they are getting at as I had an idea a year or so ago to have your engine manufacturers name across the front like Group A cars. In general people don't identify with BROWN across the front, that is just for your crew and friends, but CHEV, FORD, TOYOTA would atract a following. A lot more people would identify with a brand name. Lets face the facts, the car manufacturers don't sell engines and they don't give a rats about what we do really. If your racing doesn't sell cars on Monday, they don't care.
Good point Maurie, i realise cams don't make the rules but they are the governing body and have the final say, surely they must look over the new rules put forward by Aorcom before they publish them into the manual
Checking through the pics from Flat Out Racing it appears that very few cars had logos on their roof numbers. In fact Fellows was the only one I could see.
Have CAMS repealled this rule?

I am sure you guys will all be happy to hear that the latest Bulletin from CAMS confirms that the requirement for the Manufacturer Logo has been removed from the 2009 AORC Regulations.
