I started Tech in '77 & started buying 'Overlander' & 'Off Road Australia' magazines religiously (valuable study tools), I still have them all in pretty good nick. They are all from '77 through about '80 or so. If you think theres anything in them that can help let me know & I'll look see for you. ps; There's also some pretty good early American stuff in my collection of 'Dune buggies & Hot VW's' & 'Volkswagen Greats' from the same era.
Brad l will see if the family album is still about as we were there at the first one as seven year olds. My father had a car carrier with Top stickers all over it loaded with cars from Victoria and Tasmania at the race and was navigating for Normie Earp who had a xt or xw falcon ute blue and white which l have been told put in the fastest lap of the first event (only a story from 2 old racers)

I've got pictures in the mag's of the Top truck loaded, I always thought it was a cool way to go racing.

He did it for quite a few races in the late 70's early 80's. l always wonder why it isn't done today for hyden and the finke.
As you said your old man had the truck, you need to have access to ,or know someone with a truck who wants to be involved.
SORRA had ideas of doing that same exercise & were going to build a trailer just for that, but the man who offered to tow the trailer to the events changed jobs and the idea faded very quickly. After having the trailer and steelwork parked in my backyard for 7 or 8 years we moved it on.
Brad i finally got to some of my old mans slides and turned them into photos. I can send the prints up if you still wanted them. Yellow jeep is the late John Hoggs at the second Gundy race, The truck has Hoggs jeep and Stansfields ute at the first Gundy, and that is stansfield and pit crew at the firts Gundy.
