Fuel

Can anyone please tell me what fuels we are allowed to use. I know that avgas is banned but as far as I am aware that is about it. I sent an email to CAMS last year but they had no idea. They said that anything that complied with Australian standards is ok but I can't find a list. Can someone please help. Thanks.

From what CAMS told me that is not correct. They threw out the old 98 octane rule last year. They said anything exept avgas that was on this list, that no one at CAMS can tell me where it exists, is legal. We have a guy in our club using elf 104 & he says it's legal.

sting

try this, ring the state distributer of say elf or vp or sunoco and tell them that you want to use there product, but you want written approval from cams as a fax or e-mail to say its legal to use. if they are fair dinkium about wanting your money let them deal with cams to try an get a answer. just that easy.

I would have thought it should be in the '05 bible...

In the 04 one its very specific that it doesnt allow non-commercial fuel...

Ha ha!  i see in the AORCom minutes that a request for clarification of "pump fuel" has been requested from CAMS.  Ive had heaps of people say that they though that under the current rules that ELF is legal.

Shoudl be interesting to see what comes of it.

G, elf is legal as is pretty well anything else you can buy. The only exeption is all leaded fuel because AORCom specifically banned it. It seems very simple to fix, just specify 98 octane maximum. It would allow you to use elf 98 but the advantage compared to the price will put most people off. At the moment you can use 104 octane unleaded & it makes a huge difference especially if you run a turbo.

Cheers mate.

As we dont have a turbo, cant afford to build an engine with bulk compression and then decompress it 12 months later if the rules get changed/verified, we'll just build it to suit 98ron.

:)
