I have heard that the sport is looking to go 7000cc engine capacity. Why is this. Why dont we just put a restrictor plate in the turbo cars and make the sport run on pump fuel only. 98only.
I think you will find that the 7000cc rule is for diesels. In fact the limit is 7200cc including turbo multiplication factor. Petrol engines stay at 6000cc.
The diesel 7200cc rule was brought in to allow turbo diesel vehicles, probably mainly 4wds from Condo 750 and Aust Safari, to run in off road events. 4200cc diesel x 1.7 turbo multiplication = 7140cc. I dont believe there is any change planned for petrol engines. I'm not on any panel or anything but thats what i've heard.
I think they have allowed for a bigger capacity engine to compete in the Aussie Safari, and have justified it as an international class? To allow a hummer to race from USA.
I think they should lift the capacity. The limit was relevent in the days that it was introduced. In those days a 6 litre engine was probably the most power you could get. Now we have 3.5 litre turbo engines putting out 700 odd horsepower. If someone really wanted to they could get 1000 hp out of 3.5 litres.
It would make it easier to buy trophy trucks from the USA, it may even mean some of guys from the states bring trucks over & race them. It would also open the door to buy sprintcar engines which are fairly cheap considering what you get. This would mean lifting the capacity to 7.5 litres. A 454 is 7.43 litres.
we shouldn`t be encouraging more horsepower!!!! if anything we should be changing the turbo multiplication factor or the number of turbo`s and leaving the normally aspirated at 6000cc.

I don't also don't think we need the cars to be going faster by being able to run bigger engines. How fast do you want them to go??? There is plenty of scope within the current rules to allow many different engine setups to run competitively.

Are you out of your mind? You want more power??

This is a much more sensible idea. The speed and horsepower of current Pro cars is already too high. Will it take a high speed crash and a death to reduce the need for speed? Off Road Racing is an endurance type motor sport not a sprint event.
Why do you all assume that larger capacity will mean more horsepower? The old turbo F1 engines were 1.5 litres & were capable of near 1000 HP. There is a finite amount of usable HP in an off road car & it seems to be around 700. I looked at the Baja Brokers site yesterday & saw a trophy truck with a large capacity engine & it produced about 720 HP.
These days capacity has little to do with HP. A large engine would cost less to achieve the same power as a highly modified 3.5 litre.
mabe the speed of the cars is dictated by the track design
it would of been hard for the cars the reach over the 200km/h mark at tamagog ( bridgestone 1000 ) or colo , compaired with a track like hyden or griffith with there long straight's,
not that it worries me in my class 2 ,lol

In these days, we could definately assume more capacity would mean more horspower, everyone would try for it.
A large engine would cost less for more horsepower, so the people with the budget would spend more and get huge amounts of power.
If anything, capacity should be restricted more!
Also, when you look at most USA off-road events, their average speed is a lot less then over here, and if they can afford to come over here and race, then they can also afford to fit a smaller capacity engine!
Slow, is this just another prank thread, or is this for real?
If they don't change the turbo conversion factor, turbo engine sizes will increase as well...won't they?
LIAbillity is right, the tracks do dictate the speed, but unfortunately Kempsey is a distant memory and the tracks at national level that are in use now dont lend them selves to being low average speed events.
Kuster/Slow you guys are spot on, alter the turbo conversion or add restrictors.
I think bigger engines will result in bigger speeds and this is something the sport should be trying to reduce.
The way I see it, 3.5ltr turbo engine is the way to go for outright speed, 6.0ltr V8 would be more reliable over the year, the choice is yours. The Turbo powered Kittle cars would be very expensive to maintain, and they have some pretty handy drivers at the wheel! My guess is they will win no matter what the rules.
