WOW....all I see is red!! 'We expect informed comment.' What sort of BS comment is this? Who is we? How many do you actually represent? If you want informed comment, why look for it on a public forum? What you got was a personal opinion, nothing more, nothing less, based on the posts I read above and what is in my own mind. I have no other way of attaining info. other than this way and what gets to me via club meetings. I have no way of knowing wether any of the posts and letters above are correct or manipulated or have hidden agendas attached. Based on what I have read above it would appear a couple of competitors from WA need a reason for a 95db limit. Maurie Fuller has answered this, "I know of several events in NSW whose future depends on the amount of noise generated by the cars. It is part of the development consent from the relevent Local Government bodies. If we do not police noise at our events the authorities will either cancel the consent or make us get a profesional noise study done again, costing the promoters several thousand dollars for each event. If unlimited noise was allowed, we would close two events and I know of several others that would do the same. " So, if NSW need 95db and possibly other events around the country(state forests etc.) do as well, why would the rest of the country (WA) not back it? You have enough reasons there without touching on OH&S, duty of care, liability etc. Also based on what I have read above, others are concerned about the testing procedures. Upon my interpretation of AORCOMs new ruling, I, personally, am very happy with this and from all the different versions I have heard discussed, think it is a great result. This post I wrote slowly and carefully, so Ian, please dont wreck it with red letters all over it!
Just a quick one from myself, i have been done at over 125db at one event and then at the next event without changing anything on my exhaust i was told i was only a few db over the limit, i'm assuming it was 97 or 98, thus giving a fluctuation of approx. 30%.
warren i have two mufflers on my car, But i was told to fix my car (which is quiet) or leave at a nsw round and when i disagreed with there findings i was told that i tested at 96db and they where closer than 30m from the track, so i would like to know who is making sure that the testing is done right

We had an acoustic engineer monitor noise at a track that we race on and the results were suprising. Almost all cars complied with CAMS spec (the testing equipment was closer than 30m so numbers were extrapolated).
The Acoustic engineer that I have talked to reckons rule of thumb at that proximity to that type of noise is 10metres = 3DB.
now we are getting some good examples of actual problems by alot more people, maybe there is a problem other than the few that have previously commented? Where are these events so I don't get busted?

There seems to be a fair bit of speculation here about what needs to happen. The way I see it if a local government authority wants to know about noise they would consult another government authority not CAMS. Logic would suggest that the authority would be the EPA. If the EPA say that it is event noise that constitutes "noise" then it's fairly cut & dried. In effect what CAMS thinks noise is, isn't relevent as they are not the ruling authority. However if CAMS state when handing out an event permit that no single vehicle should exceed a certain noise level then as far as we are concerned they become the ruling authority. The critical point here is what an event permit says regarding noise.
