Old Class 2 Buggy to see the track again

Just thought I'd share a few pictures & info about the buggy I will be running in SORRA club events in 2010.

The buggy was originally build by my father, the late Warwick (Rick) Austin in 1979 / 1980 & was a regular participant at SORBA club events at Leppington. The buggy was sold in the early 90's to Dennis Coleburn who then sold it to Bill Maynard. My brother's & I tracked it down & bought the buggy back from a guy at Cabbramatta, the pedal assembly was hacked out, the seats & mounts were removed, the harness mounts were gone, the gear stick was cut to be about 2" tall, the gearbox was destroyed, the engine was blown up & half missing ..... the list goes on but you get the picture.

Below are some picture's of how it was when dad built it & a picture of how we got it back.

Since we bought it back we have purchased a Mazda B6 engine with adapter plate & Injec EM1 fuel only computer (off Anthony Lia), a 2lt gearbox with Albins bits in it (off Paul Johnson) which have now been fitted to buggy. I have also bought a set of Trik 5inch front arms (off Kevin Ottey) which will sit on the shelf for a while because I won't to be at the first race at Colo & I'm fast running out of time & it rolls & steer's at the moment so they will have to wait until the "standard beetle arms" break or I get time & money to upgrade them.

The buggy is up at JR Manufacturing at the moment getting the seats, pedals, harness mounts, hip rails @ 450mm, nerf bars, surge tank etc... welded up (thank's Warren) so when I get it back I've got lots of work to do like wiring / plumbing etc but I'm hopefull it'll be at Colo for round 1!

awesome to see a car with history being resurected instead of trashed. Especially something that has personal history significance for you personally. Well done!

I agree with Wolf, great to see an old car getting some love instead of ending up as a paddock basher!! Nice work, your dad would be proud thumbsup.gif
