Hi all, Time to show off what will be my new toy! It is a thornebuilt wasp frame and will run a un5 close ratio box and nissan sr16 motor. The old class 3 has been sold and with that money parts have been sorced ready for the build. Whilst it isn't much at the moment it will take shape in the next couple of weeks. Nearly all the parts have been acquired and are ready for the build. I must thank and recommend Darren Thorne (thornebuilt engineering) and James Madden (off road shop) for their help so far. I will post updated photo's in the next week or so.
One more week down the track and things are going to plan. Seats, and rack now intalled and most of the details have been worked out. This next week will see the engine cage finished the radiator installed and most of the arms and tank (with time permitting) should be maufactured. Season start is coming quickly but we are on schedule for the April start. Thanks again to Darren Thorne, Thornebuilt engineering.
Engine cage nearing completion, pedals mounted, radiator mounts designed and ready to be installed. Dimenisons and cad drawings have both been made and worked out for the tank and shifter. Darren is hard at work on it today and the car should be rolling by the end of the week. Shock mounts will be done early next week. panels currently being designed and fastners installed. Dash is underway and the decision has been made to put a single digital panel in instead of gauges.
Should you want to talk to Darren about any design / fabrication work on your race car then do not hessitate to contact him on Ph 0408089097.
Looks great Dave. You guys seem to be moving along very quickly with it. I like your engine/gearbox combo, should be nice and quick. Look forward to seeing it out on the track.
We didn't manage to get it rolling yet but put the wheels up against it just to see how it will look. We have decided to slow down a little just to make sure everything is done to the standard that both myself and Darren (thorne) expect. All in all car is comming together better than expected. We have added a spare wheel mount in preperation for the longer races. I must thank Dean knucky for his help with the pannel fabication. The next week all going well we will have the panels finished, tabs welded and front of the car rolling. more pictures for all of you that are interested.
If you are considering building a car and like the look of mine, feel free to contact Darren thorne and you are more than welcome to come have a look. hopefully I can drive it as fast as it looks!
Hi All, Ran the car for the first time on the weekend. Didn't have any time to test before the race so decided to race anyway. Got the car off the dyno at 1pm on saturday and then did a made dash to try and make the meeting. Got to the track at about 3.30 (race started at 3) had arranged for a late scrutineering and gasing of the shocks. Hit the track in hope of getting one of the two laps in. Realised half way around that we had 40psi in the tyres making it a little skatie so took it easy. ran out of late time to do the second lap (by around 8mins) so got pulled in. a few adjustments overnight made the car come alive. 6 laps on sunday (280ish k's) with no problems. Thanks must go to Darren thorne, roger cox and brian hester for their long nights in the last week. Will post pics of the car soon.
Well it has been alot of hard work and I must thank all the people that have put work into the buggy. Hopefully I can do it justice and make it reliable and competetive. We raced parilla on the weekend and with 8 cars in the 1650 class it was goig to be a good test. We prologed 2nd in class and 14th outright which was a good result as i am yet to know exactly how the car will react. unfortunatley on lap 1 we blew the motor which ended our weekend.
Thanks must go to Darren Thorne who has done a fantastic job on the build of the car. I would strongly recommend him. Thanks to James madden for the supply of part at a great price Last but not least Roger Cox who has put his own car on hold to help me get my car to the start line.
Obviously there are many many more people to thank and I do thank you all.
Special Thanks to my major sponsor Safeco storage & Removals who have supplied the budget to build the car.
