Here is some pics of the work done on my car to make it comply with our new rules. Thanks Wazza (Bajas Rule) for a top job. We have incorporated some ideas that I have been thinking about for the last 15 years but never got enough enthusiasm to do, Look mum, now its done & I won't hit my elbows anymore ( all being well )
Sorry Ken for taking some of the time on your car, he 's doing it now as I write.
Heyu and Bajas Rule, Great job on the buggy, but Am I wrong again as I read the rules on SIDE PROTECTION. 4.2 Par (b) Sub par (i) Design incorporating a single continuous STRAIGHT TUBE which is attached to the main hoop and the front leg. This option only applies to a vehicle where the bar can be installed without a bend whilst still providing adequate clearance for the crew. End of quote Please help me to understand the above design rules as your bars appear to have bends in them. Cheers Maurie
they are using method 2 as am i with my buggy i took the part below out from the cams bulltin as reference .
ii) Method 2 Design incorporating a single tube attached to the main hoop and front leg, with at least one additional supporting member. This option applies to a vehicle where additional clearance is required for the crew, either when seated in the vehicle (space for the shoulder or arm to fit within) or to provide adequate space for entry and exit. The location of the supporting member is at the discretion of the competitor. The purpose of this bar is to reduce the likelihood of the horizontal bar being bent vertically in an impact. A structure built to this design shall not take the place of a nerf bar.
I have modified my buggy in the same way as Ian's. I took the rule about the straight tube as having no supports. Ian (and I) have placed vertical supports, so I assumed with this addition the hip rail could have a bend in it. I would not fit in my buggy unless I employed this method.

From bottom to top on mine was 430 in the middle,it was slightly lower at the front & higher at the rear. The new bottom rail is at the original height & the new top rail is sorta lined up with the bonnet.
I haven't got one of it undressed,sorry!
