Perth, Western Australia (31/5/10) - After putting 3 cars in the top 10 at Round 1 of the Australian Off-Road Racing Championship at Hyden, Perth based Outer Bounds Racing will head across the nullarbor in hope of victory at the grueling Finke Desert Race, round 2 of the AORC.
Travis Robinson and Paul Currie will lead the charge in a brand new Nissan powered twin turbo Jimco. The pairing have stepped away from the V8 power in hope it will give them that bit extra they have been looking for in the BFGoodrich sponsored number 3.
We tested the new car for a little bit and managed to get a good idea of what we have been competing against for all these years. Said Travis. I think once we get used to the car and get comfortable we will certainly be setting faster times than the old car, although who knows what times Dad will be doing in it.
Beau Robinson and Roy Lukies are confident in their car and after sorting out 2009 gremlins to bring home a strong finish at Hyden they will be out to prove a point. Finishing 3rd at Finke in 2009 in a brand new untested vehicle shows that this #85 team has what it takes.
I was really happy to finish at Hyden and get some kilometres under my belt. We tested the car the other day and everything went awesome, the big rough stuff at Finke is unlike anywhere else so we want to be prepared there. Said Beau
In Travis ex BFGoodrich Tyres Jimco Brian Robinson and Richie Hayes will fly the V8 flag. The porter will miss out on the event in favour of the proven Jimco. With years of experience coming toAlice Springsaswell as a local in the passengers seat Brian will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
I cant wait to have a run in this car at Finke. The hospitality we get up inAliceis like no where else and I just cant wait to get up there and get amongst it. Stated Brian.
The OBR team will be tackling one of the best fields in history, with 87 entries including upwards of 20 outright capable winning vehicles entering the event. The team is well prepared for the competition and is looking forward to the challenge.
The competition has certainly stepped up over the last few years, but this year is going to be especially competitive, there are a few local boys that will be interesting to watch aswell as the usual interstaters. The Finke is very much a sprint race now, so we hope to have a good crack in qualifying and hope to lead the charge to Finke and back and bring home the flag for BFGoodrich. Said Travis
The race itself will start on Saturday the 12th of June with a qualifying, on Sunday the 13th the cars will race south to Apatula (known as Finke) along the old Ghan Railway line in a 240km rough and rugged all out sprint. Then on Monday the 14th the crews will head back along the same track in reverse to the Finish inAlice Springs.
