Side impact rules

Can someone please clarify the new side impact rules. Can you run a car without the modifications & be logged or do you have to comply with the new rules in order to compete.

I am pretty sure you would need to comply to race.

If they were to let someone run without the modification, log it and say it has to be fixed for the next race, they would be leaving themselves liable if that car were to then race and be involved in an accident where injury or death resulted. If it were found that the person was injured/killed because the car didn't meet the standards now set in place, and the organisers, etc allowed the car to run anyway, than all hell could break loose.

Yep, you have to comply or no race.
When you are complying, apparently CAMS made a slight mistake ,rule 3.1 should be 4.1.
Supposed to be a bulletin coming out on CAMS website very soon.Roof bar is not compulsory, Roof support bar from floor to roof is!

All ready Gav for the night & Day run on 10/11th July, should be good.

You are right, just went through photos, Lots of those cars don't comply.
Don't know how they got away with it.  Guess the next race they go to if they haven't done anything ,they might get a shoch when they're told, Sorry no race!

From the look of it lots of them will have work to do to run in the second round of the NSW Championship at Griffith . Hope someone passes this info on. There is a bulletin coming out from CAMS pointing out a mistake in the paper work for roll cage update.
3.1 is actually 4.1, or something like that, but check it out in the CAMS bulletins when it makes it.

Its hard to tell from the pics but im sure all cars would of been checked for this hip bar new rule at scrutineering, can this be noted in log book for first offence or is it a fact that no bars no race?? some people dont race all that often and might not of been aware of the new rules i hold a cams off road licence and dont remember getting any notification of the new rules from cams i only new of them from this forum.

Tom,
The bar we are talking about goes from the front corner of the roof to the floor.
check out CAMS Manual under General regs for off road vehicles I think its Gr 4.1

and if your going to Griffith you won't pass without it.
Mr Jones ,that will give you a clue where to find it

My hip rail misses by just 10mm, guess I best get out the welder:(
936-the measurement is 450mm to the extremes, ie lowest point to highest point!
Now I guess I need to check out this roof bar thing?
I notice the minimum pipe diameter is 38mm, is it a special grade, or just any type pipe?

38mm is the old 1", and it has to be 2.5 wall thickness CDS / CDW

Morning All,

Well I will start by saying Im trying to get my buggy ready for Griffith.
And after reading this page am feeling like I should go buy a boat instead.
I dont know when this compulsory roof reinforcement came in. But this is the first I have heard of it.

So I read the crapola rule in the CAMS Manual of some sort of Motorspaort and it says I must have bracing from the corner of my roof to the hip rail and from the hip rail to the floor. And the Tube size must be 25mm x 1.6mm.
Well this is how I read it. But Im not sure. So I turn to my friends of Off Road Racing and show you a photo of my Buggy and ask is this right?????

Cheers
LSC

i agree with u rusty ,as i read it the roof bar is now compulsory for all cars and reading the cams manual min requirement is 25x1.6 .Most cars already had this bar in but reading the new rules it says that u r suppose to have a least one 38mm tube connecting the two hip rails together ,some people removed the existing roof bar and replaced with 38mm to kill 2 stones at once .i left my legal roof 25mm roof bar in tack and just put a small 38mm tube between both hip rails so i would comply .

Yep, Exactly right.

My buggy already has a tube joining the floor to the Hip Rail and the Hip rail to the corner of the roof and Front hoop.
So I thought that all I have to do is put my Side Ckearance Opening 2nd Hip rail bar thing in.
And job done...

Out here in the country, all I can 'easily' get is 40mm, so thats what I will use!

BTW, it was suggested that another way to fix the issue would be to weld another tube straight undeneath the lower rail (floor), which would the give me the required measurement. I am not doing this, but it is an option that would make the new rule look a bit silly, because then the window opening would not change, but the hip rail height would be OK!

And Camo, gotta say the online cams manual sucks---lets lobby to "bring back the book"

Well Jones that is a good one.

I missed out by about 5mm so I was going to run a big weld accros the top of Hip rail. That would have got me in the 450mm club. hahaha

But yes totaly agree. I liked the big book better.

Jones, I agree the online book sucks, but do we really want the book back. They will probably charge us a hundred bucks for it these days. I could never figure out how as the amount of advertisers increased therefore subsidising the cost of producing the manual, the cost to us always increased.

you still have the option to buy the BOOK if want to. Lord knows how much though.
I'll ask and find out for you
