Wow, that looks pretty nasty. From the footage it appears that there wasn't a caution or anything at the spot. Main thing is they got out OK.

Actually there was a danger sign there and speaking with Danny afterwards he did see it and chose to take it at the speed that he did and said it was nobodys fault but his own.
Tracks can be a lot different at race speed than when you look at them in a 4wd !

Great footage. Amazing to see how much Danny moved in the car during the accident, his belts must have stretched a huge amount. Also note the damage on his helmet when he takes it off.

Shows how strong the car is.

Would be interested to here from Danny about whether defender neck brace did it's job?
It's the one i use and i chose it for a number of reasons over others out there. Hopefully Danny can tell me if i was right or wrong.

No the 80km limit is good especially at the Pines where you can't reccy in your race car, but I would like to see the drivers take it a little bit easier on the first lap as every year it seems that all the accidents are on the first lap.
It is a long day and us race organisers would like things to go as smoothly as they can, you won't win the race within the first ten minutes!!

Lamby, can you confirm that the danger sign you spoke about was the one at the very start of the clip or is there another one closer to where the incident happened that the footage doesn't show. Cheers.

From what i was told there was the danger then a caution and on the last bump the arrows are pointing right so even if he didnt roll he would have landed in the apex of the corner, i am not saying the track marking is perfect but it is hard to mark a track through a different course of the pine forests every year and know how fast the drivers will take certain sections. we can't test the track before we race on it and some tracks are slippery some are boggy and some get a lot better as the day goes on, we try to emphasise that the drivers use some caution on the first lap.

Just to give you some feed back whilst we are on the topic of signs, I think you need to re think how you do no roads on that track. Maybe the sign should be alot further up the track so as to make it very obvious (perhaps even bunting across the track). There where alot of people short cutting (not on purpose) and alot of cars crossing the path of others going the right direction. If you don't fix this you will end up with sombody seriously injured or dead.

I just want to say I think you guy's did a good job considering what you had to work with on race day.

Yeah the no roads were an issue that needs to be dealt with, we have allready spoke with the crew that marked the track and we have some plans in place for next year.
It was a challenging day all round but we tried our hardest to get a result for the competitors.
The weather was our biggest problem in the lead up to the event and getting close to 50mm of rain saturday night did not help us at all, the spot where everyone was getting towed out on sunday I drove through the weekend before in 2wd and there was no water.
I just hope that we get a good run next year.

i would like to say, being a navigator, i thought the track was marked out very well..... we wernt doing the speed alot of the other guys were doin being just a little 1300 but i always knew where we were going. (except for one corner, another car had already knocked down the sign, we wernt the only one..... but thats another story!!!) anyway i thought the track was marked alot better than most of the NSW tracks at least.... just my 2 cents...
