I bet he won't be the only one to be surprised about finding cracks under his floor !, who can honestly say that they have ever regularly checked for cracks in their frame up on a hoist with the floor removed ?
i think that i would be happy for someone to find a crack at a pre race year inspection than on the day at scrutineering for the event!
i know that for myself i pull the floor pan and panels off my car after event so an inspection would be no hassle at all and speaking to alot of members in my club theyre more than happy every 2 years for a full inspection to ensure their car is safe for them to race!!
i think it was only a matter of time before we had to start maintaining our gear a little better,a little crack often means a let down, and we all hate let downs,so now we know that we will have to pull it a part a little more often,i think long term we will have more racing with fewer little problems from little things that are often outer sight,so we need to suck it up and get on with it ,yer
Well at first I thought this was a bit harsh, but at Nabiac guess what some of the weld gave way due to wear & tear it has since been fixed (Thanx to Hedweld for a great job) We did finish the race not knowing what had happend, I'm only greatfull that it didn't let go over the jump or on the track. You really just never know.
A crack in the chassis, I cant believe people didn't die!!!!!
Oh, thats right....I've been racing for years, with lots of different cars, and all of them had areas of 'REPEATED' cracking....even my current car.....guess I must be typing from my grave?
What an absolute joke this whole subject is, I cannot believe people are thinking this is a good idea!
I am sorry RBR, but do you think you would REALLY would have suffered personal injury or even death from your crack, or maybe just a DNF? How many of us have DRIVEN our car through the pit area to weld something between heats (or did an ambulance tow you?)
Another joke.......my car was built in 1996, but logbooked in 2005....it HAS cracks....so do most cars......BUT, I DONT need inspection this year!!!!!
This whole subject serves a purpose of OH&S issues..... THAT DO NOT EXIST FROM PREVIOUS HISTORY OF OFF-ROAD RACING! Why do we need to cause distraction and opposition from people who love and support this sport, just to support some desk jocky's idea of creating problems to justify his job.
Whats next years idea, after we all 'suck it up'? Maybe we could regulate tyre pressures, because a 'blow-out' would mean certain DEATH! (shit, just gave the d.heads another idea)
We have done just fine with our sports own 'SELF-REGULATION' FOR THE LAST 40years.
After 25years of racing, I think it's time to 'hang my helmet', call me old or cynical, but this sort of crap that mirrors the political and corporate world is just to much for me, and I will NOT be recommending my children to this sport (by the time they are old enough, buggies will require air bags)
My 2 cents worth, that probably equates to near a million dollars spent in off-road over my years of racing.........SOMEONE PLEASE BUY MY BUGGY!
well i have it from a someone close to the AORCOM that this will be in the meeting sunday week as i had asked where they are doing in vic and was told this so i will sit still till then and see what the out come will be
Funny you mention tyres Jones, we carry on about a crack in a frame but sit there with our heads in the sand when it comes to what our tyres are speed rated to. The info is there on the net. How many 35 inch or larger tyres are speed rated at 220kph.
How about we get rid of the crap rules and the crap people that make them. And just go back to racing our cars without all the crap. Have we had enough? And someone let the cat out of the bag about tyres there not supposed to do 240 ks some one will want to speed limit the cars to 120 ks wont they. How about 50 litre fuel tanks. Now that would make things interesting then we could fit drybreak fittings and all wear full flame proof under wear just like v8 supercars. We are heading that way with all the rules aren't we . Just my opinion not wishing to offend anyone or get sued
Didn't let any cats out mate, the issue has been talked about for years. Those in power just continue to pretend it's not a problem. One for Martin, I have heard of a car that is considering using E85 which will mean it will need to carry over 300 litres of fuel. Now that's safe!!!!
Now you want 120l fuel tanks--great!! Now go back to your club, get support, then take it to your state offroad panel, get support, then they can submit it to AORCOM, who can then pass it on to all other state panels, who then support it. Aorcom will then act on this unaminous support and pass a new ruling on 120l fuel tanks. Now every one with a fuel tank too big will whinge like buggery and call AORCOM a bunch of *#%*s when it was you guys that actually made the rule. This is how 90% of it happens!! Now when you decide to make comments like "How about we get rid of the crap rules and the crap people that make them", you will have no one left racing.
Croweater correct me if i am wrong didn't the panel off idea start in Tasmania. Because they race mostly on sand there cars are prone to rust in the bottom rails . And as for the crap rules yes i am sick of them and the way they are implemented. Iam still waiting for somebody to show me why hip rails needed to be moved up in some cases 10-20-mil and why we didn't just put the tape measure on how much of your body was in the window area because of the different seats available and height of them . sorry not meant to upset anyone or to be sued you know sometimes you just have to laugh

Dont know where it started, but it wasn't tassie. Hip rails height was decided on after some 300 odd cars were measured, so I would assume the cars you are talking about are in the minority.
their must be heaps too many buggys running, every one wants to change the rules to suit themselves, slowly removing cars that dont comply, soon every one will just be talking about ,like drifting, wonder what happened to it
