Iam just seeing how many people would be intrested in a one make class using a CDS frame, A-arm setup, two or one seat with a min kg dry weight, V6 motor that makes about 200hp-250hp sealed, 930 gearbox sealed, No floater hubs, Ausshocks all round, And cost to buy a car would be some where around the $40,000-$50,000 ready to race. As the way things are going you need to buy a $200,000+ buggy just to run in the top ten and for most people thats just to much to be spending on there racing. So this class would be controled so that it comes back to the driver and not how much money you have. Please let me know what you think but take a look at the aussie cars.
For $40,000 to $50,000 i would want floaters for that price. Thats like saying do you want fries with that. Cause i bloody want fries. If you have $200,000 to spend on a buggy at least you know you have a buggy that can WIN at national level.
If you shop around you can get a burger with the lot for the price of a plain one.B.O.S.S. offroad can get you into a new chromoly frame with 25" of travel front and back floaters the works all parts you need for a class 1 winner under $50,000.00. If you shop around as there are quite a few parts suppliers now you can race at the top with a club racer budget.
Hay i not asking you to buy one but if you wont a sand rail frame and cheap parts give B.O.S.S a call cos thats what they are and dont waste my time. And if you wont to run at the front at a national round and i know you will need to spend $200.000+ for a buggy but not every one has that kind of money. And the reason i said no floaters was that they are high cost and high maintenance.
You could run Mid-Floaters with 930 cv's. Don't have to adjust them, they are a hell of a lot cheaper then full floaters. Just keep the grease up to them and make sure the boot has a good seal on the inside.
offroader2005 is the 2005 for the year you started. You shouldn't throw stones if you are that ill informed. l didn't say to buy anything from B.O.S.S. but they are Australian agents for Kartek,Kadco,Total Chaos,H.M Motorsports,Frantzco Motorsports,Swayaway ect to name just a few and a very few so dont waste my time. l was agreeing with you and l was just stating you don't have to spend $200,000.00 plus to compete. Dont be blinded by names like Jimco the car doesn't drive you you drive it.There are quite a few SORRA members who compete in thier chosen class in cars that they have built themselves for less than $50,000.00 at an elite:y so open your eyes and shop around.
Really if you can bulid me a front running National a-arm car for $50.000 go for it as i run at the front now and my car would cost you some near $110.000 to build so good luck to you and i have been in off roading for near on ten years. And not every one wants to run at the front they just want to get to the end of a race with out going home and spending a **** load of money on fixing things. And if i want parts i would not waste my time with B.O.S.S i get my self from the states.
TAKE IT DOWN A THOUSAND OFFROADER2005 AGAIN YOU HAVE MISSED THE POINT I DID NOT SAY TO BUY ANY PARTS FROM B.O.S.S. TRY BMP OR RACER IMPORTS OR THE OFFROAD SHOP OR RIVMASTER I DONT CARE THE POINT IS SHOP AROUND. FIRST YOU SAY YOU WANT TOP TEN THEN JUST TO FINISH WITH A SMALL REPAIR BILL WOULD BE OK I THINK THAT IS EVERYONES AIM SO LOW AND BEHOLD I AGREE WITH YOU AGAIN.AND IF YOU WANT A CLASS 1 FRONT RUNNER FOR $50,000.00 I JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE ONE BEING PACKED IN A CONTAINER IN THE STATES THIS WEEK A APX 25" TRAVEL ALL AROUND CNC BRAKE PARTS FRANTZCO MIDBOARDS KADCO SHOCKS & BUMPS PORSCHE 930 BOX LEXAS V8 LINK COMPUTER 6 ROBBY GORDON ULTRAS 35X12.5" BAJA PROS ECT ECT ECT YOU CAN HAVE FOR $50,000.00. ITS ALL THERE YOU JUST HAVE TO BOLT IT TOGETHER AND BY THE WAY ALL BOLTS ARE SUPPLIED. IF YOU DO BRING PARTS IN FROM THE STATES TALK TO YOUR SUPPLIERS AND SEE HOW FAR THE SANDRAIL MARKET HAS COME AND HOW MANY OF THEM PRODUCE DESRT RACERS I THINK YOU WILL FIND IT WILL SURPRISE YOUR LITTLE WORLD. AND YOUR 10 YEARS ARE GREAT KEEP AT IT WHEN YOU GET TO 30 YOU WILL STILL BE 20 YEARS BEHIND AND I AM ONLY 35 NOW I DONT RUN TOP 10 BUT I HAVE FOUND A WAY THAT I CAN TRY AND MOST OTHER PEOPLE CAN HAVE A CRACK TOO. YOU DONT HAVE TO BE RICH JUST USE YOUR HANDS TO SAVE MONEY BUILD THINGS YOURSELF AND IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW LEARN SOME SKILLS AT TAFE AT NIGHT. EVERY OFFROADER WILL LEND A HAND JUST ASK.YES I STILL AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT A CONTROL CLASS SEALED MOTORS EXCHANGABLE COMPUTERS CONTROL SHOCK AND TYRES AND I THINK ALL OFFROAD SUPPLIERS WILL WORK TOGETHER TO HELP MAKE THIS HAPPEN OR MABEY THE PRO CLASS DEBATE CAN BE TALKED ABOUT AGAIN.I WONT HIDE BEHIND A KEY BOARD IF YOU WONT A REASONABLE CONVERSATION CALL ME (KEVIN) ON 0418773057
Just a quick note to say that so far all is good but please dont get bogged down in getting personal or resorting to name calling. *edit* forum_manace - your comment is the line in the sand. *edit*
Im not saying keep it all friendly (bit hard with such differing points of view!) but bear in mind that SORRA is a family club, and this is a family show. We encourage debate about our sport no matter how contraversial, *edit* but keep the arguments for private messages if you want to get personal. *edit*
'05 - interesting suggestion, but even if a new control class was brought in what would happen to the existing class 1's? No-ones going to stop racing them and you couldnt ban them so your control class is still not on the podium unless they do a stephen bradbury.
The big cars are here to stay. User pays... and big budgets will always be an advantage... but the terrain and good car preperation will always be a big step to equalising the field.
If you want to run a class with a smaller repair bill come with us and run class 2!
As for the importers debate - everyone should be glad that we get the options! (except maybe those in competition with each other!) For every part that boss (or BMP, or the offroad shop) bring in it's still creating competition and therefore making the good bits a little bit cheaper and easier to get for us bottom dwellers.
The more successfull companies there are trading in offroad, the more successfull offroad can be. Im bloody excited that there is enough competition and money in offroad at the moment to support these companies. Thats got to point positively towards the health of our sport.
Finally, well done for not hiding behind the keyboard boss truck.

Thanks wolf you are the only one so for to really so what i was looking for instead i get people tell me what they have and i dont like getting personal but hay thats life. For the fact about the suppliers its great to see but i never said not to buy from them just i rather get my self from the states. For Class 1 i know you can not ban them and the big cars are here to stay but what i was looking for was what people had to say not theat they had floaters or not cos it was just a idea that we had been looking at as people would like to up grade to a a-arm car but not have to sell their house to do so and if you look at the amount of DNF in the races was were we are coming from with the idea and give companys here in OZ something to say is there's . So for all the things that boss truck was saying was not getting us any where near what i was really looking for. And i also know of Class 2 cars costing $100.000+. And for them to be on a national podium i never said they would but just bring it all back to the driver. But hay i dont really care we where just seeing what people had to say about it that was all we looked for so thanks wolf you are the only on to give a real answer to what i had to say
I actually would be happy to see a serious discussion about a class between class 1 and 2 (pro lite class!), but Im not sure its to the greatest benefit to the sport. Mind you, I cant say Ive put too much thought into it either... Certainly not to the point where I could suggest an option.
Upgrading class 2 seems fairly unpopular - fair enough, its already a great class.
If I was going to make an option for a ProLite class... off the top of my head though - 2ltr turbo with a set max boost pressure? min weight with driver or driver/navigator of XXXkg? suspension free? (including floaters) max tyre size of XX inches??? Porsche/Renault/VW boxes (basically anything you can build for under XXX dollars)
I dunno - Im just talking off the top of my head so please dont stone me! Its nothing more than the ramblings of one insane individual, but I would be interested in seeing it discussed.

You are right wolf and offroader l did get off the track l just dont like being slandered. Pro lite would be a great class to have with linkpin type suspension so top cars dont lay idle in the shed. They still place high in the order and give you a scare when you dont see them coming.Bringing the cost down with selected control componentry would make nationals within the reach of most. As a club if you are interested you could try running them within class 1 & 2 at club level to get some feed back. Geelong offroad club did that with thier dinosour class and had quite a few cars run it. If you run it they will come. Over time you might get the formula right and take it to the powers that be with hard facts.
this is a good point. I am sure that at one stage or another that everyone has thought about this. But the fact is that there isnt enough competitors to keep the class running. Everyone has thier own ideas on building the cars, running the cars and also spending money on the cars. It would be great if there were 5 times as many competitors.
You're not wrong there obr184. How good would it be to turn up to a race meeting with 200+ entries for the weekend. How big would the drink be. TV coverage, sponsor stands, Promo and trophy GIRLS in Bikinies or tight cat suits. UKNOW
this is my veiw on what is going on, to start another class wont help that much what we need to do is sort out the classes we have ,the system of sort out classes on motor size has to go we need to class buggies on suspenion travel , the great thing about our sport is that ever car is not built the same if you want to build a beam car or a a-arm you can but then level the playing feild by limiting the travel. now this is just a suggestion.
supalite- 12'' wheel travel front - 14'' wheel travel rear- 1600 motor
promod- class8 and class4 unlimited
prostock- class5 and class7 - 12'' travel alround on 5s -8''alround on 7s
make it a 2 year change over and you can set in weight breaks to help class 3 people change to the new system and for prostock who care how much floor has been cut out you just have to use the original door hinges and all the doors have to open.
At the end of the day I dont know if there is all that much wrong with what we're doing now.
perhaps all we need is a restricted class 1 type class (perhaps limited only by engine and suspension travel?)
Though this arguement has been made as well - class 2 can still be reasonably competitive with the right car in the right hands. Its a very relevant arguement too. Its not been all that long since a class 2 (and an old rivvy at that) won a national afterall.
I cant say I really have an opinion at the moment, Im just happy being in the shed and building our car. :)

Thanks guys like i said it was just a idea and was looking at what every one had to say but the pro class thing mite work down the track but i think if we can get the numbers up in the sport like obr said so think if we can get that right we can then play with some of these ideas and just for the point on people like to build there on cars may sell them as a kit they can then build it. And just run same motors and gearbox thats all and gee even maybe some sort of floaters.
